- Description: Poolside began as a recording project in a converted Los Angeles backyard pool house in early 2011, producing sunny tracks of subaquatic indie dance music in this makeshift recording studio. Throughout 2011 Poolside continued making waves with a sound called Inchdaytime discoInch through tracks like a cover of Neil Young's InchHarvest MoonInch as well as original tunes. In 2012 Poolside worked on a remix for longtime disco punks The Rapture and held fans over with a new single and video for a song called InchSlow DownInch as they prepared to their debut album. That album, Pacific Standard Time, was released in July of 2012 on their own Day & Night tag. After the album's , remixes for artists like Matthew Dear, Little Dragon and Fool's Gold soon followed, rehearsing and touring with a live band, and doing DJ sets around the world. Eventually, as thoughts turned to a second album, Poolside went on ice for a year; to regroup. Beginning to work in earnest on another album Fall of 2016. While still revolving around the sunny, laid-back disco sound of PST, additions of uptempo dance songs and more guitars, and generally fleshed out the arrangements with more instruments and sounds. Around the Fur the follow-up to Deftones' passionate, aggressive Adrenaline, sees the California quartet expanding on the sheer rage of their earlier work, adding new, more sinister shades to their already extreme sound. The opening InchMy Own Summer (Shove It),Inch serves as an introduction to the album's sonic theme sinewy guitars and eerie whispers alternate with fast, violent crunch. Sepultura's Max Cavallero contributes guitar and vocals to InchHeadup,Inch while InchMXInch finds singer Chino trading off vocal lines with Annalynn Cunningham, (wife of Deftones' drummer Abe) in an acerbic take on the rock star mentality. Vocal acrobat Moreno attacks a variety of styles his breathy, psychotic recitations sound downright industrial, while the album's calmer, more brooding moments show his gift for haunting melody. Behind him, guitarist Stephen Carpenter's heavy wall of sound is astoundingly muscular, yet inspiringly agile. When Deftones' hellish fury hits full tilt, as it always does on this album, Moreno's voice erupts into screams which are best described as otherworldly, transforming this intense musical firestorm into a hurtling juggernaut of aggression.
