About this product
Enno Poppe approaches electroacoustic music with an attitude that could be called Inchsympathetic skepticism.Inch Although he has been involved since his student days with programming and a wide variety of electroacoustic techniques and instruments (also in his role as a conductor), not one of his compositions until now has been InchpurelyInch electronic. In InchRundfunk for nine synthesizersInch Enno Poppe uses historical sounds - not historical instruments; the instrumentation consists of nine Computers and nine keyboards. The sounds come from the l960s and 70s FM synthesis, Minimoog and Piganino. Because no original instruments are used, only computer-generated reconstructions, everything sounds different from the way it did then. The sound is deconstructed and reassembled. The players are not keyboard virtuosos, but rather virtuosos in the use of electronic sounds. Enno Poppe's InchRundfunkInch celebrates musicians and the act of performing, and thus could be called Inchpost-digitalInch music. It returns human physicality to electronic music in the bodies of those performing it.

Hans-Jürgen von Bose belongs to that generation of German composers who brought about a volte-face in the early 1970s. They bridled at the constantly increasing complexity of music and instead wrote their works Inchfrom the belly.Inch But he was also inspired by the music of Alban Berg, Bernd Alois Zimmermann, György Ligeti and Brian Ferneyhough. Von Bose's ideal, however, always remained the same to recreate modernity from the spirit of romanticism.

Enno Poppe's works are probably performed more often than those of any other living German composer - not only in Germany. With his idiosyncratic manner of dealing with tradition, this red-haired artist, born in 1969, has developed an instantly recognizable musical style that fascinates and touches both specialists and listeners normally skeptical of new music. No matter how wild or eccentric, how chaotic or structured Poppe's pieces may sound, they always reveal the raw materials from which they are made a small number of nondescript building blocks (quasi-motifs). The fascination for the listener consists in the perceptible transformation of these motifs. Poppe has worked closely for many years as a conductor with the Ensemble Musikfabrik in Cologne and has written a number of pieces especially for the group. The current album collects these chamber music works, including InchStoffInch for nine musicians. The German word InchStoffInch can refer to fabric or any kind of material, including musical or literary material; the appearance and disappearance of motivic threads is also characteristic of the InchNouveau Roman.Inch The titles and sounds of the other works are also simultaneously direct and ambiguous. This album is part of WERGO's comprehensive series documenting Enno Poppe's music.

At the Collegiate Church in Stuttgart, the largest regional church in Württemberg (South Germany), and burial site of the Dukes of Württemberg, who lived in the neighbouring castle, a new organist was appointed in 1652 Philipp Friedrich Böddecker (1607-1683). His Sacra Partitura, a collection of eight motets and two sonatas, was printed in Strasbourg in 1651, when his negotiation with the church council had already begun. These compositions might have been decisive for Böddecker's appointment, particularly as the composer dedicated the collection to the Duke's musical sister, Duchess Sibylla. The music is composed in typical concertante style, but influenced by Italian monody and Monteverdi's seconda pratica. In his preface, Böddecker informs us that he would have Inchpreferred to publish a work with more voices than just a voce solaInch, but was forced to comply with the specifications of the InchcoffersInch and the in the troubled times after the Thirty Years' War. The compositional technique is not, however, a makeshift solution. On the contrary, Böddecker's fine works fit into a style of music which had increasingly been flourishing in German-speaking regions since the first half of the century the sacred concerto for small ensemble, placing a virtuous melody with great emphasis on the text above a richly scored basso continuo group.
