About this product

More straightforward than À la Ô Terre, it's predecessor released on Castle Face Records back in 2020, Électrons libres du québec is Population II's sophomore album. On this new effort, produced by Emmanuel Éthier, the three-piece band - made up of singer/drummer Pierre-Luc Gratton, guitarist/keyboardist Tristan Lacombe and bassist Sébastien Provençal - delivers a heavy, psychedelic rock infused with feverish funk rhythms, a hint of jazz philosophy, a burst of early punk energy, and a love of minor scales that harkens back to the roots of heavy metal. With Électrons libres du québec, Population II showcases once again their sharp sense of songcraft and an undeniable expertise in their instruments. This is an album that effortlessly maintains a balance between challenging compositions and instantly memorable melodies.

Population II - A La O Terre - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Introducing Population II-blazing through the stratosphere, boiling up from beneath the sea, hanging in the air like smoke... These elemental tunes drift and fluctuate, at one with the air, over extreme heat. Population II has beamed out of Quebec with a mind-melting debut [À La Ô Terre] of hard psych, freckled with punk sentiment. Both old school and timeless, these young humans rip. They are impressive in their live actions and this album captures this raw energy on wax. Produced by Manu from the great band Chocolat, a very high bar has been set, indeed. Fluid, tough, and over-saturated, this album is bound to please fans of the tag and new-comers alike. Reminiscent of Amon Düül, early Pink Floyd, Kollektiv, Laurence Vanay, Les Olivensteins, early Kraftwerk, even a touch of the Kinks. -John Dwyer

Harry James & His Orchestra - Autumn Leaves - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Here's the trumpet master and his great orchestra backed by the powerhouse drums of Buddy Rich and fronted by vocalist Paula Gilbert. His band was touring like mad then, and you can hear it; they do Cherry; That Old Black Magic; Moanin' Low; Embraceable You; Autumn Leaves; Sugar Foot Stomp, and more!

Dead Dads Club - Dead Dads Club - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Chilli found acclaim with his band Palma Violets, who skyrocketed to fame, landing on NME covers and topping charts, but when the band unexpectedly ended in his early twenties, Jesson was left disoriented. He tried to rebuild with a new project, Crewel Intentions, and later ventured into pop songwriting out of financial necessity.Feeling disillusioned and creatively lost, Jesson stopped listening to the music that once defined him-until Fontaines DC invited him on tour. This rekindled his passion for raw, honest music. Inspired, he began crafting his most personal project yet alongside Rupert Greaves Dead Dads Club, with 'Don't Blame The Son For The Sins Of The Father' being the first fruits from this new incarnation.
