The Portuguese composer and pianist Óscar da Silva (1870-1958) was one of the major figures in Portuguese and Brazilian musical life in the first half of the twentieth century He left an extensive legacy of compositions for his instrument, cast in a soft and sultry Romanticism somewhere between Chopin and Rachmaninov. All four of the collections recorded here concentrate on delicacy of tone-color, expressing a particularly Portuguese sense of human emotion.

William Byrd's work stands out above all for the variety of genres and structural principles. This is particularly evident in his unique keyboard music. The influence that Byrd also had on the continental development of piano music remains remarkable. With William Byrd, Friederike Chylek follows up on her last albums From Byrd To Byrd (OC1704) and Time stands still (OC1864). Friederike Chylek plays on a copy of the harpsichord by Matthias Griewisch after Ioannes Ruckers, 1624.
