Propagandhi - Today's Empires, Tomorrow's Ashes - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Canadian punk stalwarts Propagandhi are set to unleash their latest opus, At Peace, on May 2, 2025. Known for their incisive political commentary and genre-blurring soundscapes, the band continues to challenge both the status quo and their own musical boundaries. At Peace promises a fusion of their signature punk ethos with progressive elements, delivering a sonic assault that's as thought-provoking as it is relentless. As the follow-up to 2017's Victory Lap, this album is poised to reaffirm Propagandhi's place at the forefront of politically charged punk rock. Album Tracks 1. Guiding Lights 2. At Peace 3. Co-founded by Detroit natives Rahill Jamalifard and Lenny Lynch, Habibi got it's start in Brooklyn in 2011, earning early raves every- where from Pitchfork and NME to All Things Considered and The New Yorker, who praised the band for infusing Inchthe Colgate-white glisten of sixties-girl-group pop with an uncensored edge.Inch Dreamachine, Habibi's mesmerizing new record releasing on Kill Rock Stars, marks a major sonic evolution for the band, rising beyond the critically acclaimed five-piece's garage rock roots to arrive at a singular swirl of analog and digital elements that underpin their search for spiritual and physical transcendence. Produced by Tyler Love and longtime collaborator Jay Heiselmann and featuring MGMT multi-instrumentalist James Richard-son, the collection draws on a mix of post-punk, experimental pop, and vintage disco, calling to mind Tom Verlaine, Diana Ross, Kate Bush, and Kim Deal, all filtered through the band's shared love of Middle Eastern psych music. The songs here are their own distinct worlds, each an immersive quest in pursuit of something greater, and the band's performances are relentless and hypnotic to match, driven by rich synthesizers, sinewy guitars, and a muscular rhythm section. The result is a record as fearless as it is enthralling, an alternatingly fierce and joyous work that ascends to new heights as it reckons with desire and escape, love and surrender, rebellion and reality. Album Tracks 1. On the Road 2. In My Dreams 3. Pov 4. Do You Want Me Now 5. Interlude 6. My Moon 7. Losing Control 8. Fairweather Friend 9. Alone Tonight

The first thing to know, if you want to know about Propagandhi, is that they came here to rock. Right from the snarling opening riff of their seventh album, Victory Lap, that much is clear. For everything else that swirls around the band now, and for the last 31 years - the politics, the people and, lately, a gnawing sense of despair - the sheer volume of it all hasn't changed. Frontman Chris Hannah and bassist Todd Kowalski experienced a sea change in the band when after nine years with Propagandhi, guitarist David InchThe BeaverInch Guillas left the fold for a teaching position and they added a new member, Sulynn Hago, a seasoned guitar-slinger from Tampa, Florida. That said, Guillas is still all over Victory Lap, contributing licks to four songs. Album Tracks 1. Victory Lap 2. Comply/Resist 3. Cop Just Out of Frame 4. When All Your Fears Collide 5.
