Pup - The Dream Is Over - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The title of PUP's 2016 album The Dream Is Over are the exact words a doctor spoke to singer/guitarist Stefan Babcock upon discovering one of his vocal cords had a small cyst and was beginning to hemorrhage. Given that the band - completed by drummer Zack Mykula, bassist Nestor Chumak and guitarist Steve Sladkowski - played over 450 shows in the last two years in support of it's self-titled debut, it's perhaps not surprising that it happened. But while PUP had to end 2015 by canceling it's last couple of shows, by announcing The Dream Is Over the way they did - onstage at a sold -out show in Brooklyn - the Toronto four -piece proved that the exact opposite is true. The Dream Is Over is visible, visceral proof that the dream is still alive. It's just that, after two exhausting years on the road, it turns out that the dream is just very different to what the four of them thought or imagined it would be like.

From the streets of Venice Beach CA, come Ottto, the electric eclectic funk-punk-rock stew who their first full-length studio album Life Is A Game on March 24th, 2023. Bassist Tye Trujillo, lead vocalist/guitar Bryan Noah Ferretti, and drummer Triko Chavez spill their aggressive groove centric vibe throughout the 10 track, Tim Harkins (Korn, Jerry Cantrell) produced album, as Ottto lead the charge on a full-tilt Old School giant riff revival with pride and raw, unfettered passion. Double-stuffed with melody, Ottto throw it all down within a potent DIY punk attitude, infused with plenty of alternative chemical imbalance! InchMy PainInch, InchSkyscraperInch and the ultra-dynamic InchNight HowlersInch are loaded with the sort of grease, grime, and funkified riffage that can only come from the hearts and minds of unpasteurized, raw warriors. If Life Is A Game then Ottto are going at it hard, fast, and without any traditional rules.
