After dropping her debut, Metamorphosis, in 2015, Queen Herawin moved from NYC to Chicago and put out an EP, The Space Between Things. And upon returning to New York she hit a creative wall and began to internalize her feelings and thoughts. Eventually, those emotions that she had turned a blind eye to emerged to tell the story of an awakening. Queen Herawin brings those feelings to life in the form of both track titles and jaw-dropping lyricism, and she gets right to the point on the opener, InchFocus. Inch A gut-punch of writing, the song is also a flat-out banger thanks to Bear-One's production. It sets the tone for the rest of the record, too, as Herawin moves through emotions like InchAnger,Inch InchDenial,Inch and InchShameInch with an unmatched pen game. Around the Fur the follow-up to Deftones' passionate, aggressive Adrenaline, sees the California quartet expanding on the sheer rage of their earlier work, adding new, more sinister shades to their already extreme sound. The opening InchMy Own Summer (Shove It),Inch serves as an introduction to the album's sonic theme sinewy guitars and eerie whispers alternate with fast, violent crunch. Sepultura's Max Cavallero contributes guitar and vocals to InchHeadup,Inch while InchMXInch finds singer Chino trading off vocal lines with Annalynn Cunningham, (wife of Deftones' drummer Abe) in an acerbic take on the rock star mentality. Vocal acrobat Moreno attacks a variety of styles his breathy, psychotic recitations sound downright industrial, while the album's calmer, more brooding moments show his gift for haunting melody. Behind him, guitarist Stephen Carpenter's heavy wall of sound is astoundingly muscular, yet inspiringly agile.
