Queen of the Ring - BLU-RAY

In the 1930s, waitress and single mom Mildred Burke (Emily Bett Rickards) decided that professional wrestling was her future, and convinced skeptical promoter-trainer Billy Wolfe (Josh Lucas) she could make it. Within a generation, she'd become America's highest compensated woman athlete-but her frustration with the exploitative and tomcatting Wolfe would come to a head. Singular sports biopic from director Ash Avildsen also stars Walton Goggins, Deborah Ann Woll, Francesca Eastwood, Marie Avgeropoulos. 140 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack English; deleted scenes; theatrical trailer.

Adapted for the screen from the best-selling novel by Peter Maas, director Frank Pierson weaves a compelling tale of New York's ''gypsies'' and their criminal underworld. Dave (Eric Roberts), the grandson and heir apparent to the dying ''King'' (Sterling Hayden), is torn between his legacy and the outside world, and is soon faced with a decision that will forever alter his life and the lives of those around him. Photographed by famed cinematographer Sven Nykvist, King of the Gypsies is a tale of love, rivalry, jealousy, murder and intrigue, and features first-rate performances by a supporting cast that includes Susan Sarandon, Annie Potts, Annette O'Toole, Brooke Shields, along with Hollywood royalty Shelley Winters and Sterling Hayden.

Hollywood press agent Bill Dunnigan (Fred MacMurray) attempts to carry out a deathbed promise he made to the only girl he ever loved, an aspiring actress names Olga Treskovna (Alida Valli), who dies after completing her first and only film. As promised, Bill takes her body to the Pennsylvania coal town of her birth for the funeral arrangements. To arouse public interest, and get the reluctant studio to the film, he enlists the aid of local priest Father Paul (Frank Sinatra) and asks all the local churches to ring their bells for three days. Studio head, Marcus Harris (Lee J. Cobb) wants to reshoot the film with a movie star, rather than risk losing a fortune on an InchunknownInch whom he can no longer groom for stardom. Her story becomes a national phenomenon, but will this man-made miracle convince Harris to change his mind or will it take a genuine miracle. Irving Pichel (The Most Dangerous Game) directs this wonderful, heartwarming classic that recalls such films as Going My Way and the Bells of St. Mary. Ben Hecht and Quentin Reynolds adapted the best-selling novel by Russell Janney.
