Rachmaninoff / London Philharmonic Orchestra - Rachmaninoff: Symphony No. 3 - 10 Songs - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

With the recording of the Symphony No. 3 and the Symphonic Dances, Oehms Classics and the Gürzenich Orchestra of Cologne proudly present this composer's last two works. Rachmaninoff's Third was given it's premiere in 1936 in Philadelphia under Leopold Stokowski. The present recording offers, with Dmitrij Kitajenko, one of the best conductors of our time for this repertoire.

Marking their latest collaboration with their conductor laureate Vladimir Ashkenazy, the Philharmonia returns with a stellar live-performance recording of two late works by Rachmaninov - the Symphonic Dances and Symphony No. 3 in A Minor. This is third and final in a new series of Rachmaninov's symphonic works, conducted by Vladimir Ashkenazy in live performances with the Philharmonia Orchestra. The previous volumes, which included Symphonies Nos. 1 and 2, were met with critical acclaim. InchPerhaps the most satisfying of all...Inch (BBC Music Magazine) InchAshkenazy knows how to shape detail and soar in the big melodic moments. The PHilharmonia sound is muscular and alert, from the opening woodwind solos to the mighty, stirring symphonic tutti of the finale.Inch (The Observer)

The special edition soundtrack features all 21 original tracks plus a bonus Karaoke track, with instrumental, of InchProud of Your BoyInch a previously unreleased song from the original Academy Award, winning composers Alan Menken and Howard Ashman.
