With the near impossible task of following up their critically acclaimed masterpiece OK Computer, Radiohead took another bold leap at the turn of the millennium with Kid A, an experimental album built largely around the union of electronica and mood. Musically, Kid A is as accomplished as anything Radiohead has ever produced and it's overflowing with eye-opening musical mosaics which are absolutely stunning in their insight and beauty. Kid A initially proved to be controversial as critics labeled the mixture of electronic beats, jazz horns and strings as InchdifficultInch but tracks like the soaring InchOptimisticInch kept fans loyal and saw Radiohead crowned as masters of composition. On this, the band's second album, the core emphasis remained a nexus point between country, folk, psych, and classic rock all shrouded in mystery, and Hope Sandoval's trademark drowsy drawl remained swathed in echo. The hit single InchFade Into YouInch brought Mazzy Star unprecedented success and was the band's only single to make the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at #44. The song also charted at #48 on the UK Singles Chart. Pitchfork listed InchFade into YouInch at #19 on their Top 200 Tracks of the 1990s list.
