About this product
Only a few, famous jazz bassists have ever gone beyond the limitations of their instruments and sought new opportunities on the cello. The cellist Valentin Radutiu turns the tables to show how well the cello suits jazz - at times taking the role of the traditional string bass, at others a resonant tenor guitar while at others giving it's voice wings. The repertoire on Remembering The Rain A Jazz View, comes mainly from the InchGreat American SongbookInch, supplementing that glorious heritage with standards by John Lewis (MJQ) and Bill Evans, both of whom had their own anchors in classical music as well.

Montreal's Dissimulator will be a new name to most in 2024, but with the of razor-sharp debut album Lower Form Resistance the band unleash an overwhelming future shock on the auditory and sensory nerves, permanently imprinting on the cerebral cortex with their pulsating unconventional attack. Comprised of a membership with resumes that include Chthe'ilist, Atramentus, Beyond Creation and more, the band executes it's jagged sci-fi death-thrash with vicious intricacy. Over the course of Lower Form Resistance's forty-two minutes, the jarring angular riffs, complex structures and atmosphere of exuberant incongruity meshes acutely with a straightforward momentum and perpetual accessibility at the crossroads where the thrash and death metal scenes began to coalesce and directional potentiality feel limitless. Add to this a Voivod-ian prescience of robotic sentience and technological doom and Dissimulator's vision makes for total immersion in their world-building enterprise. The off-kilter and adventurous spirit of Lower Form Resistance that manages to sound fresh today while conjuring a certain spirit of '88-'93 makes the Dissimulator debut a mesmerizingly bizarre and gratifying dose of aggressive alacrity.

This is a re- of the Jazzhaus bestseller 101711, recorded live in 1961 in Stuttgart and Frankfurt. Gillespie wanted to act fully as a human being, fighting against drug abuse, educational problems and segregation. It makes sense to bear this philanthropic stance in mind when listening to his music. Gillespie's melodies were supple in an engaging way, his tone had about it something radiantly numinous, extending beyond the capacities of the mere instrument. And at his improvisational, often breathtakingly virtuoso best, he managed to inspire players and audiences alike to feel themselves part of an extraordinary moment. One noticed this at the Stuttgart Liederhalle when he came there in November 1961, and one can still feel it today even at this distance in time.

SE-Quartet's debut recording on Prophone presents the group as a new force on the Nordic jazz scene. David Ehrlin, Rasmus H. Thomsen, Antti Ojala, and Patrik Hanson met as studio musicians but so enjoyed playing together that the gig spawned a new partnership A tight quartet with lyric sensibility and dynamic interplay. As the title might hint, the tunes featured on this are contemplative and lyrical, each selected carefully by the quartet's members for it's thought-provoking, evocative mood.
