Digitally remastered edition of this album from the Jazz great. After two albums which established Barbieri as an important new voice on the saxophone, his 1971 appearance at the Montreux Jazz Festival made him a star. This performance was captured on the album EL PAMPERO. It is semi-acoustic Jazz at it's most satisfying. The Argentinian saxophonist pulled back slightly from Free Jazz and focused more on his roots, ably backed by Bernard Purdie on drums, Lonnie Liston Smith on keyboards and Nana Vasconcelos on percussion. The set of four numbers all have South American influence. The playing switches from contemplative to fiery, showing his debt to John Coltrane and other avant garde players, carefully woven into the rhythmic explorations. One of the greatest live Jazz recordings of the 70s.

Stuart Nicholson wrote in the BBC Music magazine of the InchRarumInch series Inch... selected by the artists themselves, this series is of enormous importance in revealing the breadth of each artist's work, as much for the converted as the unconverted looking for a window into the remarkable ECM catalogueInch. The complexity of Brazil, it's interweaving of cultures, finds it's echo in the music of Egberto Gismonti who draws on resources both InchsophisticatedInch and InchprimitiveInch- from European classical music to the samba school to the music of the Xingu Indians and the sounds of the rainforest, from folk musics, from jazz. Highly trained as a pianist, Gismonti adapted pianistic technique in innovative manner on his customised 8- and 10- and 14-string guitars. It is his guitar artistry which is at the forefront of his rarum collection.
