Red Steagall & Boys in the Bun - Love of the West - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Red Steagall - Wagon Tracks [COMPACT DISCS] date 07/27/2004

This field recording reflects several musical traditions of the British commonwealth of St. Lucia. Traditions represented include English-influenced military brass bands and marches for fife and drum, children's play songs, women's work songs and Jwé (InchplayInch). Jwé is a chanted form of verbal heroics where the vocalist teases an individual or makes social or political commentaries; when a message resonates with an audience, they join in. Songs are sung in English and French creoles.

The Nits are a Dutch art-pop-rock group, founded in 1974 in Amsterdam. Their musical style has varied over the years, as has their line-up, but the core members are lead singer and lyricist Henk Hofstede, Robert-Jan Stips on keyboards (who worked with Supersister, Gruppo Sportivo, The Golden Earring) and Rob Kloet on drums. In 2024, the band was celebrating their 50th anniversary with a European tour and brand new music. Six fresh-penned tracks werefeatured on the mini album Tree House Fire, with the central theme of the songs being the fire that completely destroyed the band's Amsterdam studio in 2022. Tree House Fire is available as a limited edition of 500 individually numbered copies on white colored vinyl and includes a 4-page booklet. LISTEN //youtu.
