About this product
2016 , the third album by Portland family performer Red Yarn (Andy Furgeson). Recorded with Grammy winning producer Dean Jones, the album is an homage to Furgeson's favorite old children's records and songbooks. Red Yarn emerges from the Deep Woods - the weird animal world he explored with his first two albums - to sing sunnier songs about waking up, childhood play, animal adventures, and parenting. Wake Up & Sing expands on Red Yarn's rich and lively folk-rock sound. His rootsy vocals, driving guitar, and tight harmonies with his wife Jessie Eller-Isaacs are reframed within Jones' whimsical sonic palette. The sound is rounded out by Jones' drumming, Jed Greenberg's bass and fiddle, guest appearances by Morgan Taylor of Gustafer Yellowgold, Mo Phillips, and Jane Scarpantoni on cello. Furgeson's collaborator Ryan Bruce created bright linocut prints for the album artwork, echoing the simple designs of old Folkways children's records.

Red Yarn's Old Barn is the fifth album by Austin-born, Portland-based family musician Red Yarn (aka Andy Furgeson). With originals, traditionals & a honky tonk cover song reflecting Furgeson's roots in the Texas Hill Country, Red Yarn's Old Barn tells of an epic barndance where all critters are welcome. Furgeson co-produced with GRAMMY-winner Dean Jones & engineer Adam Selzer. Furgeson & his wife Jessie Eller-Isaacs are backed by Jones, Dan Hunt (Neko Case), Annalisa Tornfelt (Black Prairie) & Paul Brainard (M. Ward, Richmond Fontaine), with guests like Jenny Conlee (the Decemberists), Justin Lansing (Okee Dokee Brothers) & Jazzy Ash. Red Yarn paints the Old Barn as an inclusive microcosm of the USA. InchWe'll all feel better if we could all just be together,Inch Red sings, Inchand there's room here in my Old Barn for you.Inch
