A: It would have to do with power supply and demand ( hard wired may only be to key and not continuous power supply) ,,, the cam has a power supply built inside ( Capacitor ) and as the cam receives power from the vehicle, it fills the power like cell up,,,, once this power cell runs down ( say after turning the vehicle off and no continue power is supplied ) and it will eventually but how ever some times it still has power left in it enough so then the cam it notices the power coming in - it will fire right up and work ,,, If the cams power supply is dwindled down to zilch, the cam wont recognize the power coming to it and not turn on and then you have to manually start it up again. The cam is basically like a cell phone- leave it on long enough ,, it needs recharged because it goes dead but the on board capacitor (Battery) charges back up and works at the same time. It may of been hard wired to the switched power and would explain cam still working after shutting off key but latter not working. Hope I have been able to help some.
Q: Does this come with a hardwire kit or do I have to buy it separately?
A: No, you have to buy it separately. It's around $10. Pretty sure bestbuy sells it.
A: This item does not come with a battery. It uses a capacitor, this makes it much more durable in hot climates. If you want to use it while the car is off then you will need to get the hardwire kit (sold separately) and wire it straight to the fuse box in your vehicle. This will then allow it to use the car battery. The hardwire kit has built in protection to not drain the battery so the vehicle should still start. This item will also not allow you to monitor the vehicle from a distance. It has built in wifi but the range isn't very far.
A: Yes, the hardwire kit is $10, is available at Best Buy or Amazon, and the unit can be unplugged and used in another vehicle. However, if you were to move it to another vehicle, it would not be practical to move the rear camera; you would have to unplug the rear camera and just use the front camera. I bought two, one for each of my vehicles, the installation was rather easy and the quality is fantastic!
A: Yes......which was one of the main reasons I purchased this particular camera. Just remember......it has to be hard wired into an "always on" fuse under the dash for this feature to work!!
A: The rear camera plugs into the front camera which is powered via the lighter connection.
Q: what is the max GB micro sd card will it take? it shows add on 128 gb is that the max?
A: I am using a 256gb and it works fine.I read somewhere in the documentation 256 is the max. It lasts a while without overwriting at that size, too.
