About this product
Ten years after the transcendent syncopated debut 'Progress Chance', Ricardo Donoso returns with a pulsing retrospect of rhythmic determination and wide-eyed wonder with 'Progress Trap'. The moods on these electronic miniatures vary from piece to piece; some somber, brooding, and laden with mystery, others starry-eyed, tinged with sci-fi, and hungry for adventure.Connections are finally forged between Donoso's early hardware synthesizer arpeggiation experiments, his darker and more abstract work with an emphasis on synthetic textures, pulsation, and sound design and the more recent extreme full throttle electronic mayhem and prog inspired technical opuses. Progress Trap is as harmonious as it's predecessor allowing dissonance to subtly seep in, providing mere hints at the undercurrent of threat hidden beneath the music's smooth surface. There's a lot to digest on Progress Trap, as with Donoso's entire canon, but as always, the effort is repaid.A1. They Saw it Coming 3 202. Hostile Environments 2 273. Great Acceleration 3 034. Limited royal blue colored vinyl LP pressing, includes . In describing Palm to the uninitiated, it's sometimes necessary to clarify the meaning of the group's name by raising one's hand in the universal symbol of greeting and goodwill. The act of corroborating the aural with the gestural occurs everywhere in their work. On their latest EP, Shadow Expert, the syntax of popular music is regarded suspiciously and often subjected to revisions or reversals. Without formal training in their instruments, the players are left to determine their own musical language. Eve Alpert and Kasra Kurt's guitars occupy themselves most often with the pace-keeping work typical of a rhythm section. Meanwhile, Gerasimos Livitsanos' bass and Hugo Stanley's drums seem to perform commentary and reportage from deeply embedded positions at the front. Their contributions remain necessary to the composition, generating the kind of friction that other motion can be charted against the grinding of teeth, the turning of an engine.
