Richard X. Heyman - Heyman, Hoosier and Herman - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

One might cheekily observe that it was approximately twenty years ago today (or rather, this year) that Richard X. Heyman released his first indie disc, Actual Size, a collection of six of his finest songs recorded on an 8-track Tascam machine in a home studio, the same one on which Richard would subsequently record his classic album Living Room!! Included on that EP was the winsome tune InchHoosierInch which caught the ear of British Invasion superstar Peter Noone, lead singer of Herman's Hermits (Herman himself!). He and Richard entered a studio together and put down the version which opens this 2000 EP, Heyman, Hoosier & Herman, with Richard on drums, Nancy Leigh on bass and Andy Resnick on guitar, and everyone singing along with Herman. 'Hoosier' is a lost love ode to a first girlfriend. Richard first met Peter Noone when they were both both signed to Cypress Records in 1990. The recording remained unreleased until the realization struck that it deserved to be heard by pop aficionados everywhere and why not accompany it with worthy songs that had fallen by the wayside from the Cornerstone sessions? There were lots of other leftovers from Richard's third album Cornerstone, as Richard recorded roughly sixty songs in the seven years between Hey Man! And that . At a certain point in assembling the final track list for Cornerstone, Richard sensed an emerging theme, of tunes having to do with love relationships. That criterion led to the deletion of many beautiful tracks, which lay dormant until the 2000 of the Heyman, Hoosier & Herman. Goldmine has called Heyman, Hoosier & Herman 'easily a candidate for best (take your choice) a) album b) EP c) CD of (your choice again) 1) 2000 b) 2001 c) the whole damn new millenium...it had to be a tough choice when it came to crossing them off the Cornerstone collection. Fortunately for Heyman devotees, they're given a welcome re

Richard X. Heyman - Basic Glee - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Ladies & Gentlemen - Introducing the Artist Currently Unknown as Richard X. Heyman. Well, that's not exactly true. RXH has a legion of fans who eagerly anticipate each new and live performance in their particular part of the planet. It's just that some music lovers are still in the dark about this sensational singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist. After four critically acclaimed albums, Heyman is overwhelmingly regarded by those in the know as the premiere purveyor of pure pop pleasure. Now, with the completion of recording his fab fourth, 'Basic Glee,' RXH should receive the mass recognition he so rightly deserves. If you aren't familiar with RXH, here is a mini-micro-bio. Richard kicked off his musical odyssey at the tender age of five, astounding family and friends, by sitting behind a drum kit and launching into a Gene Krupa-style solo. From then on it was a nonstop singin', strummin' safari. The piano, guitar, bass, singing, and ultimately composition were all targeted and tamed. The influences soaked up were as varied as Bernstein to The Beatles, Richard Rodgers to the Rascals, and the Blues to the Byrds. 1986 saw the debut of 'Actual Size,' a six song EP including the song 'Hoosier,' which was covered by Peter Noone of Herman's Hermits fame. (That recording has now been released as part of Heyman's disc 'Heyman, Hoosier & Herman.') In 1988 'Living Room!!' came out and was the first DIY home recorded album to be reviewed by Rolling Stone. Their rave led to Heyman signing with Cypress/A&M, who re-released 'Living Room!!' to an appreciative audience of lovers of melodic pop. Sire/Warner Bros. President Seymour Stein heard the song 'Call Out The Military' on New York's WDRE, called Richard at home and offered to put out his next effort. The result was the now classic 'Hey Man!' which Stereo Review cited as Album of the Month. Heyman fans were again delighted
