Rick Holmstrom - Late in the Night - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Reissue of 2005 . Sister Gertrude Morgan (1900-1980) was a painter, singer, and self-proclaimed Inchbride of ChristInch whose visually explosive folk art is celebrated on the museum circuit world-wide. But her one album, made in New Orleans in the 1960s, is one of black gospel music's secret relics. Those recordings were unearthed and a limited number of copies were released to unanimous and widespread critical acclaim in 2003. Ropeadope Records procured the master rights and enlisted internationally acclaimed DJ and producer King Britt to create an entirely new and ground breaking work, putting musical tracks behind the Sister's previously unaccompanied vocals. In the studio for over 12 months working on this project, King and co-producer Tim Motzer hired a crew of stellar musicians to create the ultimate backing band and produce one of 2005's most promising releases.

2022 . Cheerfully bucking the traditional idea that self-titled albums are only for artists just getting started, Rick Braun marks a fresh new chapter in his career with Rick Braun, a stylistically eclectic, ultra-funky/soulful and exotica tinged collection on his indie tag Brauntosoarus that celebrates 30 years since Intimate Secrets launched him to contemporary jazz stardom and made him one of the genre's most influential artists and producers.

Rick Estrin & the Nightcats are back with their most expansive collection yet of brilliant blues and roots music filled with cunning songs and extraordinary musicianship. Contemporary celebrates the band's ability to use tough blues and raucous roadhouse rock as jumping off points for exhilarating new roots music. It's chock-full of originals that combine savvy songwriting, instrumental prowess and perpetual grooves into a distinctively modern blues sound, highlighted by the epic title track, a dizzying, Zappa-esque mash of Chicago blues, uptown funk, balls-out rocking and muscular rapping.
