Terry Riley - Terry Riley - the Columbia Recordings - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

This deluxe 4-CD box set from Sony Music brings together the seminal Columbia recordings of Terry Riley, a visionary composer whose influence on minimalist and electronic music continues to ripple through generations. Thoughtfully presented with archival materials, this collection offers an essential document of Riley's most transformative period when the pulse of innovation met the possibilities of high-fidelity sound. This box set is more than a collection of recordings it is a rare window into a time when the avant-garde found a home in major-tag studios and groundbreaking artists like Riley were given space to explore uncharted sonic territory. From his mesmeric electric keyboard and saxophone improvisations to his pioneering use of analog tape delay, every track here pulses with the spirit of experimentation. Starting with the original 1968 recording of In C, captured at Columbia's legendary 30th Street Studio, by revered engineer Fred Plaut, the set includes four seminal works by Riley that helped shape not only the minimalist movement but much of the late 20th century avant-garde landscape.

Reicha - Musique de Chambre - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The fruitful partnership between the Alpha tag, the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel and the Palazzetto Bru Zane continues with this set of chamber music by Anton Reicha, performed by the musicians of the Chapel, young talents of an exceptionally high standard, ready and willing to take up the challenge of this music. A key figure of the early nineteenth century, this Czech composer who became a naturalised French citizen did not leave his contemporaries indifferent. Both his music and his theoretical writings set zealous partisans against fierce detractors. This three-part album, assembling pieces from different genres and periods, gives an insight into the richness of the composer's extremely prolific output of chamber music, whose originality can still fascinate us nearly two centuries after his death it illustrates the diversity of the instrumental genres he tackled (sonatas, fugues, études and variations for piano; piano trio, string quartet, string quintet) and a compositional art characterised at once by perfect mastery - as one would expect from someone trained by Haydn in Vienna between 1802 and 1808 - and by the greatest originality.

Urochromes - Trope House - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

On their first long player, Urochromes complement their catchy-as-F**k punk bangers with colorful experimental rock that choogles forth like the waters of the Mississippi River Delta where it was recorded. There are classic Urochromes chargers like first single InchHair So BigInch and the catchy kiss-off InchMillieuxInch that pair Dick Riddick's concise and explosive guitar playing with some of frontman Jackie InchJackieboyInch McDermott's best sketches of uptight, paranoid characters on the edge. InchRumshpringaInch plays it straight with a beautiful slow-burning riff and soul-searching lyrics (InchWhen do I get my Rumshpringa?... / I want to lean back in time like that Tower of PisaInch); it's a new Urochromes classic where Riddick's licks spark and lilt through the bridge toward the closing verse's poignant refrain. These more restrained, contemplative moments balance out the uninhibited tenacity of the rest of the album-not something every (punk) band is capable of achieving when they jump to the LP . Combining the authentic sound of Gary Wrong's Jeth-Row Studios with the engineering talents of longstanding Urochromes engineer Will Killingsworth (Dead Air Studios), Trope House delivers the most hi-fidelity Urochromes recording to date without sacrificing any spontaneity or raw power.
