About this product
In this substantial recording, the award-winning young pianist Dario Bonuccelli leads us towards the discovery of the works of Giovanni Rinaldi, a discreet and precious figure in the Italian artistic panorama of the nineteenth-century. The trait that chiefly defines Rinaldi's personality, in addition to his composing exclusively for the piano, is the fact that his inspiration expressed itself invariably outside the established formal patterns no Sonatas, no Themes with Variations, no substantial Inchconcert piecesInch, but only short, strongly characterized pieces. Not even an authoritative friend such as Giulio Ricordi, who urged him to compose a sonata, managed to change his conviction that the music he was creating must be the most direct expression of an emotion, and was not to be conditioned by abstract principles. The mastery of Dario Bonuccelli in the interpretation of these small portraits mainly dedicated to nature, daily life, small emotions and simple feelings, brings us back to the discovery of an alternative cultural undergrowth that flourished in the shadow of the great European romanticism and the rampant nineteenth-century Italian melodrama.

On the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the publication of Primo Libro di Toccate (1615), Arcana is proud to make this reference recording of Girolamo Frescobaldi's most popular work available again. Here, Rinaldo Alessandrini shows to full advantage his well-known skills as keyboard virtuoso as well as his familiarity with the madrigal repertoire of the time, so important for a proper approach to this revolutionary book, whose basic elements are the affetti and where rhetoric became the interpretive key. Two period Italian instruments are used here, making it possible to rediscover the colors appropriate to Frescobaldi's music a harpsichord attributed to Album Tracks 1. Toccata Prima 2. Italian composer Ruggero Leoncavallo was also a great pianist. This album offers listeners the chance to see the composer under this light. The works are performed here by pianist Marco Sollini. Marco Sollini, who has been lauded by critics and fellow musicians for his energy, technique, and sincerity, has performed throughout Europe, United States, Latin America, Indonesia and Africa. In addition to his work as a recitalist, he has performed with many orchestras, including the Dohnányi Symphony Orchestra and Budapest Concert Orchestra (MÁV), and the Hungarian State Symphony Orchestra. He has broadcast for RAI (Italian radio), Radio Vaticana, Tunisian National Radio, and Serbian Radio and Television, among others. He is particularly interested in rare and unpublished Italian works and has released the premiere recordings of the complete piano works of Puccini, Giordano, Mascagni, Leoncavallo, Bellini, Verdi, Persiani and Offenbach. The German Rossini Society magazine has called his Chandos Rossini piano recordings 'an exemplary edition'.
