Why did Socrates, on the eve of his death, decide to start playing music? Why is beautiful music often sad? Why is this sadness also a consolation? Why do we always hope that music is able to make us better if we listen to it? And above all, why does music have so much power over us, why is it able to upset us from top to bottom while, literally, it means nothing and has nothing to say? Based on the analysis of Jankelevitch, Hegel and Alain, we will try to answer these questions, and put words to the elementary and mysterious power of music. Ollivier Pourriol, an associate of philosophy and a cinema specialist, likes to mix the two. From scenes of illustrious films, he explains the concepts of philosophy, which take shape in reality.
