Robbie Fulks - Let's Kill Saturday Night - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

REVENGE! Is the new from Robbie Fulks, a 2-disc, 23-track Inchlive recordInch that invests that term with fresh thinking. One disc stars the songwriter's ferociously rocking four-man road band. The other has Robbie in an acoustic cabaret setting, and highlights his Carolina-bred flat picking and communicative dynamism. Together they form a singular document of the country contrarian's musical range - rock, bluegrass, honky-tonk, jazz - and spontaneity. Half the tracks are new, and all are newly fired, with an ideal blend of audiophile clarity and on-the-spot joy.

Classically trained at the Conservatoire d'Avignon, pianist Patrick Favre developed a passion for jazz. He began his professional career in 1989, performing with bassist Louis Petrucciani and saxophonist Charles Tyler. In 1995, he worked with clarinetist Perry Robinson and appeared on his recording Movement. Favre settled on the trio lineup, offering a 2003 album entitled Dance nomadic and a 2010 on Fremeaux entitled Humanidade. His latest , Origins, features a lineup of bassist Gildas Bocle, drummer Karl Jannuska and guitarist Pierre Perchaud. With a selection of nine originals, Favre tells the story of his life in a kind of musical fresco. Each track explores moments in his life, looking at them like snapshots that are kept secretly inside a drawer.

2013 album from the Alt-Country singer/songwriter. InchThere may be flashier songwriters than Robbie Fulks, but there are none better than him. His album, Gone Away Backward, is a sneaky triumph. Hobos and miscreants rub shoulders with nostalgic old-timers and lonely lovers. The musicianship on the album kicks ass, but the real star is the brilliant pile of songs Robbie has amassed for his return to the great Bloodshot Records.Inch - Rhett Miller, Old 97's.
