Roberto Paternostro - Mascagni Cavalleria Rusticana - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

UnexplainableInch may well be the best explanation for the members of the UK based electronic outfit Coil. Making a radical shift from intentional accessibility, by means of traditional pop songwriting, to abstract happenstance, Coil had entered into a new phase of their career. Utilising what was then the newest computer technology, digital and analog synthesis and the newly formed idea that something outside of themselves was steering the ship.During the studio sessions that developed into what would become InchWorship the GlitchInch, Coil became aware of random compositions emitting from their equipment and were seemingly at odds with the constant InchaccidentsInch that were perpetually plaguing the recordings. The band blamed these unintentional emissions on InchELpHInch a conceptual being that is one part physical equipment failure and one part celestial fiend constantly playing the role of trickster by throwing a wrench into Coil's methodology. Eventually, these accidents and mistakes were embraced by the band and the process of misusing audio software to create intentional IncherrorsInch was adopted as a musical technique. The acceptance of the InchmistakeInch, and the use of discovered faults as intentional elements slowly became the drive and concept behind the album, thus birthing the title InchWorship the Glitch.

Mascagni's first and most successful work has become an opera classic as it features elements of the Greek tragedy, mixing up religious and archaic elements. It's a story of love, passion, jealousy and restored honor in bloodshed. Directors Di Gangi and Giacomazzi set this traditional Cavalleria in a Sicilian village of the 1940s where the buildings are rather bare and the piazza is the stage for private as well as public drama. Conductor Valerio Galli is at the head of the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, one of the best in Italy. Good performance reviews for the whole cast. InchThe star of the show is Angelo Villari, who plays an impeccable Turiddu. Thanks to his warm and fiery voice, the Italian tenor adds credibility to a complex character, torn between passion and sensitivity... Soprano Alexia Voulgaridou portrays a perfect, melancholic Santuzza. She possesses an excellent vocal instrument and her voice is lyrical, dramatic and emotionally engaging... Marina Ogii is a Lola imbued with charm and sensuality, with a warm and cleverly projected voice... Elena Zilio is a well-centered and engaging Mamma Lucia, with a magnetic stage presence and an incredible expressive talent... Lorenzo Fratini is at the head of the chorus which provides excellent and powerful contributions to the performance. Inch (connessiallopera. It)

Around 1890, after seeing the success of Mascagni's Cavalleria rusticana, Leoncavalli decided to write an opera in response, in one act and composed in the verismo style. Leoncavallo claimed that he took the inspiration for Pagliacci from a real-life incident from his childhood.
