Roderick Williams - Peasant Poet: Songs Vol 1 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

SOMM Recordings announces the launch of a major three-volume series devoted to the rich and varied songs of Stephen Dodgson on the eve of the 10th anniversary of his death in 2013, aged 89. Volume 1, The Peasant Poet, features tenor James Gilchrist, baritone Roderick Williams, soprano Ailish Tynan and mezzo-soprano Katie Bray, accompanied by Christopher Glynn (piano), Mark Eden (guitar) and Ian Wilson (recorder). Son of the Symbolist painter John Arthur Dodgson and a distant cousin of Lewis Carroll, Stephen Dodgson was a prolific composer with a notable focus on works for guitar, harpsichord and recorder. Although neglected, his more than 100 songs are a substantial and defining part of his output. Composed in 1961, 'The Peasant Poet' from Four Poems of John Clare, settings of the troubled and travailed poet, gives Volume 1 it's title. Contrastingly, 1950's Tideways sets four poems by the idiosyncratic Ezra Pound. The six songs from Dodgson's 1998 Second Series of Australian Bush Ballads Inchmakes use of his own melodic style, graceful, elegant or sharply original and witty... with expressive accompaniments, sometimes simple, sometimes richly chromaticInch, as John Warrack comments in his booklet notes, supplemented by Robert Matthew-Walker's informative note on Dodgson's style. Writing in his native Gaelige, Irish playwright and political activist Joseph Campbell prompted 1949's Irishry, the late The Monk and His Cat from 2004 returning to Ireland to animatedly set a playful ninth-century text. Seven other songs, drawn from a variety of sources and voiced with appropriate individuality, complete a recital that eloquently argues for Dodgson's place amongst the best of modern British art-song composers. Album Tracks 1. Four Poems of John Clare~Trotty Wagtail 2. Four Poems of John Clare~The Peasant Poet 3. Four Poems of John Clare~Turkeys 4. Four Poems of Jo

Gina X Performance - X-Traordinaire - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

LTM is proud to announce the first on CD of the second album by Gina X Performance, an acknowledged new wave/electro classic first released in 1980. Formed in Cologne, Germany, the core of Gina X Performance comprised charismatic Gina Kikoine (vocals and lyrics) and writer-producer-musician Zeus B. Held. Between 1979 and 1984 the group released four albums of cool arthouse electro-disco Nice Mover, X-Traordinaire, Voyeur and Yinglish. Their classic 1979 single No G.D.M. was a club hit on both sides of the Atlantic and remains a cult classic thanks to electro/synthcore compilations such as Nag Nag Nag. Slinky second single Nice Mover is also an established favourite, having appeared on the Andrew Weatherall compilation Nine O'Clock Drop. As well as stand-out tracks Striptease, Opposite Numbers and the single Do It Yourself, this new extended CD edition also features four bonus tracks from the 1984 album Yinglish. In 2005 Q Magazine's electro-pop special rated No G.D.M. as one of the most influential songs to come out of the Continent a fact made clear by even the most cursory listen to Ladytron, Goldfrapp or Miss Kitten and the Hacker. The CD features twelve digitally remastered tracks and runs for 60 minutes. The booklet preserves the original artwork from the 1980 album as well as a detailed artist biography. Album Tracks 1.
