About this product
A Pawn Surrender is an album about relationships with myself, with friends, with lovers, and with the world around me. It's about learning how to play the game, what moves to make, figuring out who I'm up against (most often my toughest opponent is my own internal chaos), choosing when to fight for what you want, or when it's time to surrender. I'm at the cusp of my thirties and very interested in understanding how to best utilize varying traits within myself to move through life with some sense of strategy and intention; to slow down, celebrate my strengths and ponder my weaknesses. I love the chess motif running throughout the album because chess is a game that requires patience, understanding, and acceptance - three virtues that I struggle to maintain but will always seek to embody.

This recording has NEVER been released on vinyl. Having appeared in La Dolca Vita before joining The Velvet Underground in New York in the mid-60s, Nico seemed to be at the epicentre of all that was cool in the 60s. And she continued that trend by relocating to Manchester in the 80s for a career renaissance before sadly dying in 1988. This vinyl immortalised her performance at The Hacienda, Manchester, in 1983. This deluxe package will include an OBI strip, single album jacket, printed inner sleeve, record labels and crystal clear purple vinyl.

Culminating a ten year period, this - Drums and Drones Decade - captures the essence of the project in sound/image/text. The three albums - dating from 2013, 2015, and 2017, respectively - reflect the project's evolution over the years. The 5Inchx7Inch and 144 page book consists of liner notes for each album, images from collaborations with two leading NYC video artists, and an essay on Just Intonation, a.k.a. nature's tuning system. The CDs are inserted at the back of the book, and a download card is included. Drums and Drones is the solo project of Brian Chase, drummer for rock band Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the NYC experimental music scene. Inspired initially by La Monte Young and Marian Zazeela's legendary Dream House installation, the Drums and Drones project aims to evoke meditative qualities through the use of resonant tones and sonic subtleties derived from drums and percussion.Disc 101.
