About this product
Deviant Resonances carries the concept of Inchcreative listeningInch into new dimensions. In addition to the unconventional ways in which the everyday listener is called on to interpret the music, composer David Rosenboom literally uses the action of InchlisteningInch as an instrument. The first track, Portable Gold and Philosophers' Stones (Deviant Resonances) (2015), is an epic piece lasting over 35 minutes. Rosenboom achieves a resonant sound by analyzing electrical signals coming from the brains of two imaginative performers. A third performer calibrates a computer system to the responses of what he calls Inchimaginative listening.Inch This system adapts to the brainwave activity of the first two performers and builds a symphony ranging from quiet beginnings to climaxing crescendos. The resulting sound is simultaneously relaxing and curious. The calming flow of resonance from the brainwaves creates the illusion that time is being slowed down. In this calm, however, one can't help but wonder at the revolutionary use of brain functions as music and the potentiality of the organ inside each of our heads. The ethereal droning with occasional flaring sparks and pops evokes a timeless, spaceless experience which listeners from anywhere in the world can explore. The album continues with it's experimental approach to the reverberation of space using electronics and computer algorithms in tandem with live instruments. Though only half the length of Portable Gold, compositions like The Right Measure of Opposites and Earth Encomium explore the same InchnothingnessInch of space but offer grounding in the physical world through instruments like live piano. The album concludes with The Experiment and Four Lines (String Quartet). They are the only tracks to use voice and strings, respectively. These compositions call on attentive listeners to experience a constant volley between

Metier Records proudly presents InchResonating Earth,Inch the latest album by acclaimed pianist Carolyn Enger. Resulting from a multimedia project, developed in collaboration with producer and video artist Elliott Forrest, visual artist Myles Aronowitz, and photographer/activist J. Henry Fair, the work addresses the urgent climate crisis through the transformative power of music and art.Resonating Earth emerged from Enger's profound connection to nature and her dedication to environmental activism. Living in a wooden house outside Manhattan, Enger draws inspiration from the natural vibrations of her seven-foot Steinway piano, her personal yoga and meditation practices, and her profound love for the planet. This album, born from those inspirations, offers a sonic environment conducive to contemplation and openness, featuring a diverse collection of compositions that span multiple generations and schools of thought. The album opens and closes with works by Meredith Monk, whose pieces InchQuarry WaltzInch and InchEllis IslandInch frame the program with themes of totalitarianism and the promise of freedom. Interwoven throughout are compositions by Marcos Balter, Nico Muhly, Wolfgang Rihm, Missy Mazzoli, John Cage, John Luther Adams, Philip Glass, Iman Habibi, Caroline Shaw, and Sean Hickey-each bringing unique perspectives and emotional depth to the project.Key highlights include Marcos Balter's Bagatelle A piece filled with simple, spare gestures fading into chasms of silence, creating a resonant environment for reflection.Nico Muhly's Lilt Broadcasting assurance through steady rising fourths and hymn-like melody.John Luther Adams's Nunataks Inspired by the solitary peaks of glaciers, evoking human isolation and vulnerability in the face of climate change.Iman Habibi's in the brittle quietude Reflecting on the pandemic's impact and hoping for a more equitable and cons
![Partch / Krieger / Rosenboom - Sonata Dementia - COMPACT DISCS [CD]](https://pisces.bbystatic.com/image2/BestBuy_US/images/products/cebc1942-b924-4022-a0f2-b1e3a4267e87.jpg;maxHeight=422;maxWidth=264?format=webp)
Did you know that the legendary American Maverick Harry Partch wrote music for West Coast jazz icons Chet Baker and Gerry Mulligan? They never got a chance to play his smart and funny Ulysses at the Edge of the World, but this InchMinor Adventure in RhythmInch really swings in time signatures that would have made Dave Brubeck blush. So opens a collection of Partch classics that no one has really heard before. His score for the film Windsong was edited for the soundtrack, and though music lovers will recognize the material from the subsequently expanded Daphne of the Dunes, the symphonically structured original is much more dramatically crafted, and is presented here for the first time. It turns out that there are actually Twelve Intrusions, too, not eleven. And a demented sonata? Oh yes! Though the composer never performed or recorded it, his 1950 composition Sonata Dementia is in three movements I. Abstraction & Delusion, II. Scherzo Schizophrenia, and III. Allegro Paranoia. Filled to the brim with humor, flights of fancy, and a febrile imagination, it was later reworked as InchRing Around the Moon,Inch but what a treat to hear the original in all it's zany glory. The Bonus Tracks reveal even more lost treasures here is the original 1904 Edison recording of the Native American InchCançionInch that Partch had transcribed in the 1930s and used to close his final Intrusion InchCloud Chamber Music.Inch But best of all, the first-ever recording of Partch as performer, playing what is probably his most famous piece, Barstow 8 Hitchhiker Inscriptions in front of a live audience in 1942, just a year after it was written.
