About this product

Conceived in the 1980s in Mexico and brought to California through the border inside of his 6-month-pregnant mother, Rudy de Anda's debut solo record is a love letter to the long historical lineage of rock 'n roll music as interpreted through his multicultural lens. InchI write my own story, I don't want to be defined by any sceneInch de Anda proclaims of his personal journey, and his ability to adapt and flit between cities and cultures is part of why L.A. Record has called his sound Inchdeliberately difficult to classify, familiar but novel at the same time.InchSince 2005, de Anda has played thousands of shows in various musical projects, but with 'Tender Epoch', tellingly the first recorded under his own name, he has clearly found his own voice with a wealth of stories to spotlight. It's exquisitely crafted pop, with universal messages of heartbreak and loss that still feel appropriate played speeding windows-down on the highway in the coastal sunshine. Above all, de Anda likes to keep people guessing from the album artwork to the multi-faceted textures of sound, 'Tender Epoch' feels ambiguous to any era, a perfect collusion of old and new that showcases a music historian's knowledge of both past greats and influential peers. Sculpting his own path through a wild ride that feels unlikely to let up, de Anda refuses to settle down or get comfortable, instead carving out a classic record that is sure to set a standard for songwriting to come. The whole Colemine and Karma Chief family is proud to welcome Rudy de Anda and to present Tender Epoch.

Rudy De Anda - Closet Botanist - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

In 2020, Rudy de Anda moved his homebase out of California for the first time. He was headed East. Somewhere in the back of the U-Haul, among the boxes and baggage, was a mostly finished record. Upon arriving in Chicago, Rudy quickly found the final pieces of his new LP, Closet Botanist. It's due out April 28, 2023, on Colemine/Karma Chief Records. The album was recorded in Austin, Texas at the Electric Deluxe recording studio. The space is owned and operated by Adrian Quesada (Black Pumas), who helped produce and engineer Rudy's new LP. InchIn the past, I've done most of my recording in California, Inch Rudy explained. InchThe new location changed the vibe. The band and I were 100% focused on the process.InchRudy's previous releases have grown synonymous with California sunshine. He was born in Los Angeles and spent most of his formative years in Long Beach. InchPeople often tell me my music reminds them of the beach and the sun, Inch Rudy said of his older songs. Closet Botanist isn't a total departure from Rudy's beachy, psych-rock roots, but it does sound more mature. InchThese songs are personal to me. More than ever before, I was able to get to the point and get some things off my chest. It's about lost love and lost friendships - it's more visceral than any music I've made before.InchMost of the songs were written back in California with the help of Rudy's previous bandmates. InchTu MiradaInch was one of the first songs he wrote in Chicago. Then, a local friend helped him find InchHey Mr. Sun.Inch Rudy connected with Blake Rhein (Durand Jones and the Indications) during the final weeks of writing. InchHe showed me a song and asked if I wanted to record it. I hadn't done that before, but I loved the song. It felt like I had found the missing piece.Inch To get the sound just right, Rudy called his California bandmates to the studio. Jon Rivera played bass, Daniel

Tycho - Epoch - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Epoch is the final album in the trilogy beginning with 2011's Dive, then 2014's Awake. This period between Dive and Epoch marks a significant maturation for Scott Hansen's continually expanding project, one that has taken him from a solo performer and bedroom artist to fronting a live 4-piece band on large stages across the world. Epoch hones the sonic aesthetic of Dive while drawing on the kinetic energy of Awake, it explores darker themes and new musical territory. The album was produced and recorded by Hansen predominantly in his home studio in Berkeley, CA. The album was arranged alongside long time collaborator and partner in the project, Zac Brown. Brown contributed bass and guitar parts to the songwriting process. Rory O'Connor performed drums on the album. Hansen sees Epoch as a multi-dimensional artistic vision at the confluence of his graphic design work via ISO50 and music with Tycho. The graphic presentation of album artwork is as important as the music itself. The keystone is the central image of Epoch and the colors scheme red and black. This is a stark contrast to the almost rainbow palette of Awake.
