About this product

Rustin Man aka Paul Webb, formerly the bass player in Talk Talk, releases his new album Drift Code via Domino. Webb has released one record under the moniker Rustin Man so far, the superb Out Of Season in 2002 - a collaboration with Beth Gibbons of Portishead. He has been working on the follow-up ever since, recording it in his home, a converted barn, in an Essex field three miles from the nearest village, an extraordinary building as much Old Curiosity Shop as modern living space. Creating that, and raising two daughters with his wife Sam, was happening alongside the making of Drift Code.

Rustin Man - Clockdust - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Rustin Man aka Paul Webb will a new album ' his second in two years ' on March 20th. Having waited 17 years for Drift Code, some may be surprised at Clockdust's swift arrival, but the album's roots can be found in the same extended sessions. 'Early on I realised I had two albums worth of material,' Webb explains. 'The first tunes I wrote were electric guitar based, with long arrangements that built up in layers to something sonically quite dense. These became the bulk of Drift Code. As a reaction, I wrote a batch of songs that were tighter in their structure but had more feeling of space. These make up the bulk of Clockdust.' Idiosyncratic and quietly haunting, Clockdust is seeped in sepia-tinted nostalgia, 'a powerful force of nature,' he states, 'up there with love and desire'. The album blurs the boundaries between past and present. Webb insists that he prefers to live in the here and now, but in looking back he's found a magical, mesmerising manner in which to forge a path forward for him, for his music, and for his audience.

DRIFT - At the Party - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

A NEW MUSICAL PROJECT BY RENAUD LETANG starring friends & family FEIST - CONNAN MOCKASIN - BENNY SINGS - CHILLY GONZALES - JAMIE LIDELL - SAUL WILLIAMS - VLADIMIR COSMA - PHILIPPE KATERINE - INFINITE BISOUS - JERRY PAPER - CHUUWEE - MEL D. PRODUCED BY RENAUD LETANG + CHILLY GONZALES. RECORDED AT STUDIOS FERBER.This is the album of a lifetime. Or rather half a life spent, since the age of eighteen, in the shadow of recording studios. Under the multi-faceted pseudonym of DRIFT, AT THE PARTY is an album by one of the world's most renowned and sought-after French sound engineers and producers of the last three decades Renaud Letang. ManuChao, Chilly Gonzales, Feist, Mathieu Booagerts, Lianne La Havas, Philippe Katerine, Saul Williams, Jane Birkin, Seu Jorge, Micky Green, Connan Mockasin and Amadou & Mariam have regularly called on him, sometimes to the point of not being able to do without this producer with golden hands and rare hearing. For years now, Victoires de la Musique award-winner and Grammy Award-nominee Renaud Letang has been secretly preparing an album project with all his artist friends, in the basement of Studios Ferber. His Canadian accomplice Chilly Gonzales, with whom he formed the successful producer tandem VV in the 2000s, has encouraged him to his songs, which he composes in the dark between two recording or mixing sessions. Renaud Letang sees his compositions as Inchdrift musicInch, with a wide stylistic palette - from sunny disco pop (At the Party, Working on Me) to naive jazz (Papaya, A Night in Waimea), from futuristic hip hop (Cosmic Drift, That's All) to dreamlike tracks (Très Gentiment In Waimea). The word DRIFT, the multi-faceted alias chosen by Renaud Letang, describes precisely this perpetual movement, which wonderfully spills over into this collegial record, open to all vocal marriages Feist, Chilly Gonzales, Connan Mockasin, Benny Sing

The Drift - Noumena - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

San Francisco's the Drift create music that Tortoise should have made. Taking their name to heart, the Drift do just that - from ambient noise and elegant guitar rock to mournful jazz ballads and stunted, down-tempo hip-hop - all with the subtle grace that's to be expected from veterans of the sound. Existing somewhere between Miles Davis's InchIn a Silent WayInch and Tarentel's InchFrom Bone to SatelliteInch, the Drift compose predestined soundtracks for everyday life - not only perfect for a night on the beach, but just as suitable for the long drive getting there. Their music is inescapably passionate, executed with just enough wide-eyed improvisation to sound eternally fresh.
