Sabine Lutzenberger - Gesange der Zisterzienser - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Ludwig van Beethoven - Die Weihe Des Hauses / Drei Hymnen / Symphony 9 [COMPACT DISCS] date 08/26/2008

Richard Strauss considered Mozart to be Inchthe most sublime of all composersInch. Both Mozart and Strauss wrote exquisitely for the soprano voice and Sabine Devieilhe, with pianist Mathieu Pordoy, has assembled a beautifully balanced programme of their songs. Among them is Strauss's sublime 'Morgen', which brings a guest appearance by violinist Vilde Frang. When Devieilhe and Pordoy performed Mozart and Strauss at London's Wigmore Hall, The Spectator wrote of a Inchheart-stopping sopranoInch who made the songs Inchsound dewy-fresh. Her voice picked up and outlined each word; long lines sounded spontaneous but wholly considered. The clarity and the lightly worn self-awareness of Devieilhe's singing made for a seductive combination.Inch

This unique programme of four works for cello and piano by significant twentieth-century composers is a reflection of the greater interest in writing for the cello that the inspiration of two highly gifted instrumentalists was to have during that period. Thereby raising the importance of the instrument to a higher level in public appreciation than was previously the case, and bringing to attention music that would otherwise have remained largely unknown.
