Q: Can it work as a stand? / in place of the stand if you do not want to wall mount it?
A: No it will not work in place of the tvs stand. You will have to sit it on the tv cabinet in front on the tv.
Q: Can you add an external subwoofer.

Q: Does it support multiple sources (eg. Directv and Samsung smart tv)? Wireless/bluetooth?
A: I have direct tv and a Samsung smart tv and I have no problem with it working for both. It does work wireless as well
Q: Will the HW-MS6500/ZA fit in a cabinet that is 7.75" deep?
A: JLaw, the dimensions (W x H x D) for the main unit is 41.7 x 3.1 x 5.1 inches. ^Heath
