A: Hi Matt, No, this doesn't need a water connection. You must fill the reservoir cap with 22 oz (650ml) of drinkable water to use the steam function. Great oven with great features!
We love this oven so far. Still learning all of the features, Love the camera. The only thing so far that has been a disappointment is I can't seem to get the Smart things app to work correctly with multiple phones. It does notify the multiple phones but not control. There was a little bit of confusion on whether it came with a power cord. It does just with no plug only a hard wire. So you have to purchase a plug adaptor. Overall, you will not be disappointed!

Love the flexibility
We routinely use both upper and lower ovens at the same time. And sometimes just the upper. We take out the divider for large items. It really is an excellent feature to have two smaller ovens in one and also a full size oven.
