I purchased this after giving the Tab S5e a chance at home. I thought I'd save a few more bucks with the S5e. It's supposed to be unnoticeably slower than the S4, and I figured the S5e will benefit from OS upgrades longer. The S6 would ultimately blow both away, but I couldn't justify the price for what I use a tablet for. I looked at open box for great deals. I compared the two in-store, and performance seemed similar. I really liked the fingerprint reader in the S5e. Once I got home, I noticed a few issues that were a big deal to me: 1. The S4 has HDR color. The processor in the S5e doesn't have the extra pipelines for HDR color. I noticed a difference in Netflix, for example. I got better performance in Netflix. 2. The S4 performs faster on my WiFi. The S5e maxed about 270mb/s download speed. My S4 clocks at 420mb/s download speed. 3. The processor is slightly faster, although the higher storage S5e does have more RAM. 4. The S4 has an s-pen. I like it, but it wasn't a game changer. Less impactful S4 advantage: 1. Camera has a flash. I really like this tablet.

Best Buy shipped my Galaxy Tab SUPER FAST! It's easy to use, surprisingly durable, and fun. The pen is super smooth. This is a product for adults & kids. I've used it for school, business, and entertainment. And, my daughter love love loves using the pen to color on the preinstalled drawing app!

Fast performance even when multiple apps are opened. Great sound quality when watching videos. When using the original samsung keyboard be careful with your s pen since it falls off. I lost mine. An all-in-one device perfect for work as a supporting device.

I have always used Samsung tablets, they are easy to use and long lasting.

So many so called professional reviews say this tablet isn't for productivity, gets very little done, it isn't for work, etc. I don't know what work they are referring to, perhaps since they are professional writers they should provide better context in their product bashing. Unlike many tablet consumers I do not use my tablet for media consumption and web browsing only. I use it for stock trading, and as a professional in IT, I also use it for work. Citrix workspace or Cisco anyconnect makes it easy to connect to my employers network where I have access to all of the tools I need such as MS Outlook, putty, all of our intranet sites, etc. Attached is a pic of me connected to my work network and using putty to login to one of my servers and restarting WebSphere. Samsung DeX makes it easy to switch between windows when I'm connected to our network, and no, you do not need Samsung's expensive keyboard for DeX, I use my old Tab S2 keyboard so I can use the touchpad. I am very pleased with this tablet.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 is an ideal tablet for those that want a zippy tablet for activities such as surfing the internet, reading and writing email, watching videos, and reading comic books. The first thing you notice when you hold it in your hands is the excellent build quality. It has a solid and substantial feel yet is comfortable and light enough to hold for long periods of time. Comics and videos look gorgeous on the 2560 x 1600 Super AMOLED screen. I’ve always wanted a HDR HDTV with an OLED screen and now I have one that fits in my backpack! I also have an HP Chromebook X2 for reading comic books but it’s a little bit too big and heavy to read comfortably for long periods of time. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 is smaller, lighter and has a higher resolution screen and is now my favorite device for reading comics. Performance wise, it is very snappy which makes it ideal for times when you want to do something quickly on the web and not have to wait for the computer to boot up. I like to browse Best Buy’s weekly ad and a lot of my budget tablets struggle with this task. Not so with the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4! Viewing the weekly ad feels about the same as on my desktop. It has a very thin bezel which is great for giving us more screen real estate but the thin bezel meant it was easy for my fingers to be touching the screen just by holding it. There were times when it didn’t seem to respond to my finger presses. It turned out that the fingers on the hand holding the tablet was touching the edge of the screen in a way that prevented the tablet from responding to the finger presses from my free hand (I think sensing another finger wide apart on the screen made it misinterpret my gestures). Overall, I found the tablet to be very responsive to my gestures as long as I am careful with the way I held the tablet in my hands. The battery life is fantastic. It typically lasts about 5 days with light use every night (about 2 or more hours surfing the web and watching YouTube) before needing to recharge. It comes with the best camera I’ve ever used on a tablet with great low light performance. It also comes with an S-Pen that can allow you to have some creative fun. One nice thing about the pen is that it does not require any batteries or charging. The S-Pen for the Galaxy Note 8 is supposed to support 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity but the S-Pen that came with the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 didn’t seem to be pressure sensitive when I played around with it in the PENUP app. I’m hoping that it really does support pressure sensitivity but I need to do more investigations on this. I didn’t get to play around with DeX mode much. In fact, it is kind of a hidden feature and I only found out about it from other reviewers. DeX mode is enabled by going into Settings/Advanced Features and turning Samsung DeX on. To get back into tablet mode, you just go back to Settings/Advanced Features and turn Samsung DeX off. DeX mode is Samsung’s answer to having Android OS be able to offer a desktop like experience. In DeX mode, you can have multiple Android apps each running in a separate resizable window. This works similarly to how newer Chrome OS laptops are able to run Android apps in a window. In my brief experience, it seems to work okay. I paired the tablet with a Bluetooth keyboard and I was able to get multiple Android apps such as the the Best Buy app and Google Docs (which I used to write this review!) running in a window as if I were on my Windows desktop. You do not need to use a Bluetooth keyboard with DeX mode but using one makes it feel more like using a desktop. I have heard that some Android apps don’t work well in DeX mode but the few that I’ve tried seem to work well. I’m not sure which approach (Android/DeX or Chrome OS running Android apps) will be the eventual solution to bridging the mobile and the desktop worlds. Both approaches currently have rough edges. For example, Chrome OS has the limitation where Android apps don’t have access to the SD card. With the current status of DeX, I think it can be useful as an emergency light duty laptop when you don’t have access to your main computer but I don’t think it’s at a state where it can be a full replacement. But as a media consumption device, I think the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 is the king of them all and there isn’t anything better out there.

I’ve been really excited for this tablet since specs were leaked a few months ago. I have, or have had, a TON of tablets. I currently use a 2016 iPad Pro 9.7, but had iPad Air, air 2, mini, nexus 7, and a Sony S. As far as Android tablets go, this is the pinnacle of devices. This has the performance of a turbo sports car, but runs smooth like a luxury sedan. On my 2hr commute home, I streamed Spiderman Homecoming, and it looked and sounded fantastic. The image was crisp. Soundstage was expansive for such small speakers. Samsung branded apps are ok, but I replaced most with the google equivalent. I didn’t spend a lot of time with DeX mode, but it worked pretty smoothly for the 10 minutes I messed with it. I primarily plan to use this tablet as an entertainment vessel. I’ve packed it with movies, ebooks, and games for travel. For that, it really shines. Many would say, “you can get a cheaper tablet for that” ... that may be true for some, but I spend 2hrs on my daily commute, so I wanted something that shines. S Pen is sensative. I’ve used it for sketching and it’s great for maneuvering in the tablet without fingerprints before watching a movie. It’s great Samsung included the SPen, but it should really have some form of storage on the device. I know I’ll lose it within a month. Feels great in hand, and minimum lag. Overall, I really highly recommend this tablet for anyone committed to the android ecosystem. It’s easily the best tablet available for that system. Please look at this tablet for what it is, not what it isn’t. A lot of the reviews by “pros” at the various blogs focus on comparing it to everything EXCEPT other Android tablets. For Android, it doesn’t get much better than this. Well done Samsung!

The battery can be quickly charged using the USB-C port thanks to Samsung’s Fast Charging capability. Samsung did not scrimp on the camera. The 13mp rear camera produces good quality photos. The front camera has 8mp which is plenty for arms-length selfies! My testing of the video had good results. I watched as the camera worked to quickly refocus as I scanned the room with the tablet’s camera moving from close-up objects to far-away objects. After installing my apps quickly using Smart Switch to copy my apps from my old device, I tried out the Samsung DeX interface using the book cover keyboard case that I purchased separately from Best Buy and a Bluetooth mouse. I like DeX so much that I keep it in that mode most of the time. The keyboard is smaller but I quickly adjusted to the size and I am able to type on it with both hands. The keyboard case doubles as a protective case for the tablet and has a holder for the S Pen. Usually when I travel, I have to take my laptop because I have some regular computer duties that I must attend to that cannot be done on my phone or old tablet due to the fact that some features that I use on the desktop version are simply not included on the mobile app version. Taking the laptop is never convenient because of the weight and size. Now that is solved with the DeX interface. Now instead of lugging a heavy laptop on trips, I can tuck the tablet into my carry-on or personal item. When you are in the DeX interface the Android Navigation bar becomes a real taskbar at the bottom of the screen. You can add or remove shortcuts from your desktop screen just like you would on a PC. There is an Apps button in the lower left corner of the screen where you would normally find the Start button on a PC. Tap or click it to reveal the apps screen. To add an app to the Home Screen, long click (or press) the app icon and drag to the top of the screen. On the home screen, you can have up to 20 windows open at once and you can resize them like you would PC windows (See my note about Samsung Labs below.) The windows you have opened are lined up in the taskbar at the bottom of the screen like you’d see on a PC. Also, with a Bluetooth mouse, you will have right-click option boxes. In fact, you will be able to use your keyboard and mouse to make your tablet function almost exactly like a PC. There are some limitations, for example, using “My Files” I was unable to drag and drop files from one folder to another, but I could right-click and choose move from one folder and then choose paste in another folder (without having to right-click on the second folder.) Since the Samsung documentation says you can drag and drop files, I may need to try this with a different app, but my work-around was so easy, it will suffice for me. The DeX Interface can be activated by connecting the Samsung Tab S4 into the book cover keyboard case, but I turned this feature off in “Settings” so that I could also use the keyboard and mouse in the Android interface too. Disconnecting the tablet from the keyboard does not put it back into Android mode; you have to manually switch back to Android mode by clicking the Quick Settings button in the Task Bar at the bottom of the screen and clicking on the Samsung DeX icon. I became adept at this in no time and could quickly switch back and forth. I had to do this a few times because Smart Switch feature only works in Android mode and not in DeX mode, but I preferred working on the tablet in DeX mode. I was able to use Smart Switch to copy my contact list and specific files that I chose from my old tablet to the Tab S4. DeX mode also works without the keyboard if you don’t wish to purchase it. You can use a digital pop-up keyboard instead. If you are in Android mode, the Quick Settings button is on the top left part of the screen, or you can just use the Settings icon on the home screen to get there. Samsung Labs: Several of my apps were not compatible with DeX, but I got a pop-up that asked me if I wanted to turn on the Samsung Labs function. It explained that “Samsung DeX Labs is experimental and isn’t officially supported” and that it “may cause errors.” I decided to give it a try and I’m glad I did. I turned on the “Force apps to resize” option but left the “Auto open last app” option turned off. I have not had any errors and can easily resize any windows that I have open in DeX mode. If you don’t get the pop-up, you can find Samsung Labs in Settings under the Samsung DeX section. I had a negative experience when trying to set up this device. I had gotten past setting up a 4 digit PIN for security, and setting up my Google account when I had to leave the set up task for a couple of minutes to take a phone call. When I got back the screen was black. I couldn’t sign back in without using my PIN, but since I didn’t complete the set up, it wouldn’t take my PIN. I called Samsung and they couldn’t help me but said since I had gotten past the Google account screen, I should call Google. Luckily Google was able to help me reset the tablet to factory defaults. So just remember to not let your screen time out and go black during the set up process. The default time out is set to only 30 seconds, so be careful. Or you could choose to not set up security during the set up process, then finish the set up and go back later to set up your security sign-in. Bottom line: Despite the set-up glitch, I am extremely pleased with the tablet. That being said, however, I don’t think it is worth the price unless you get the keyboard and Bluetooth mouse. If you want a tablet that can function like a PC when you need it to and then go back to being a tablet whenever you wish, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 would be perfect for you.

[SHORT] The Samsung Galaxy S4 is the tablet that shouts "I GOT THIS". A formidable laptop replacement that Samsung forgot to include a keyboard and not as an extra cost option. Pros: -Build quality -All glass looks super high end -Expandable memory -A screen that you don't want to look away from -fast charging and long'ish batter life -great competitor to the ipad pro -especially designed for business users but easily made for gamers, media viewing, and selfies -cameras look great and fast (has a led flash in back like the older tab s model) -everything feels fast Cons: -Glass back makes this very fragile -seems a little heavier in the hand than the 2018 ipad -doesn't seem as bright as the 2018 ipad or current ipad pro 10.5" -most android apps still not optimized -Samsung doesn't include the latest cpu like apple does (SD835 = 2017) -some bloatware that includes Microsoft Suite -No keyboard included standard, how are you supposed to be a laptop replacement [LONG STORY] My experience with android os based tablets is they get old fast. Meaning they tend to slow down and stop receiving OS updates. The iOS counterpart even after a couple of years keep their speed and continue to receive OS updates. Will Samsung break the tradition and support this tablet after a year or two? Let us hope so because this tablet is the nicest tablet anyone has brought to market. Once I opened the box, I didn't want to put the tablet down. Everything I've watched on this tablet looks amazing. Other android tablets and the ipad tablets cannot match the screen on this thing. But one thing that scared me a little bit during setup, the lower half of the screen had some strange anomaly. Almost like gravity was pulling on the contents of the screen pulling it to the right side. I factory reset and it went away thankfully. I wish samsung included a screen protector on it from the factory. I would hate to scratch the screen on such a nice unit. Fingerprints I can wipe off. Yes, this tablet is a fingerprint magnet. Get prepared to wipe the rear glass a lot unless you slap on a skin or something. Samsung didn't include a keyboard so I couldn't use the DEX feature Samsung advertises on the box. WIFI signal was great throughout my house and speedy. It comes with a wall charger (model EP-TA20JWE ), S pen with replacement tips, and charging cable. Would of been a 5 star review had it came with keyboard to experience the DEX feature.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 4S is a finely polished tablet. It really is the best iPad alternative I have found. The HDR display looks amazing. Colors pop, four speakers deliver crisp (if not ear drum shattering) sound. Movies like “Ready Player One” and “Ghostbusters (2016” look amazing. I have primarily been an iPad person, but this may be my new go-to tablet. The face / retina scanner works well. I feel like a bit of an idiot holding the tablet up to my face, but, assuming there is plenty of lighting, it works well. Unlike the iPad Pro, the stylus comes included. The tablet detects the stylus when it is close to the screen and even gives a small cursor. DEX mode can be used without a dock. With a Bluetooth keyboard and a mouse, the Tab4s functions very much like a laptop. However, while it would work in a pinch, I still prefer my tablet as a tablet. If I want a laptop with laptop power, I will just use my laptop. But, DEX mode is functional and they are adding new features all the time. Still, I think the primary competition for this tablet is the iPad Pro and, compared with that tablet, this tablet is great. There are enough little features and polish to recommend this tablet to anyone looking for a comparable tablet running the Android OS.

This is a really well made and good looking tablet, Samsung’s decision to do away with the physical home button on the front was a good idea, as this tablet looks better than most because of having the smaller and equally sized bevels on all sides. The Iris scanner unlocks the tablet very quickly once the eyeballs are in proper view of the camera. The Iris scanner even works in the dark, as there is an infrared light that is on the front of the tablet which emits infrared light that illuminates the face area when the scan is in progress. The infrared light that is emitted, is in the spectrum of light that is not visible to the human eye. I tested the iris scanning process while I had my night vision security camera pointing at myself, and when I viewed the video, I was surprised how much infrared light was actually emitted towards my face during the iris scanning process. The glass back on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 is not really my favorite material for the back surface, as glass does not really seem to have any advantage over a more durable aluminum panel for the back of a tablet. I cannot imagine a scenario where dropping the tablet would not result in cracking the back glass panel, with that said, it is made of Gorilla Glass, but if you buy this tablet, it would probably be best to also purchase a shock absorption case. I have seen a YouTube review of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 which claimed that the included Samsung S-Pen felt a bit light and not premium, I do not agree with that statement. I found the S-Pen to be quite perfect in length and weight, and the newly designed thinner pointier tip slides over the screen smoother, since there is less friction from a bulkier tip. Also, this Samsung S-Pen does not require any batteries, so I am guessing this is part of the reason it weighs less compared to other digitizers which require batteries. The power and volume buttons all have a quality feeling clicking mechanism, which is to be expected on a premium smart device. Using the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 is quite fun compared to the smaller screen on an Android Smartphone, I actually found myself looking forward to using this tablet, and this is not nearly as common with my equally priced Smartphone. The only thing which might make using this Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 less desirable compared to a Smartphone, is if the tablet had to be held in the hand while using it. I found that holding the tablet while using it can be a hassle, as the tablet does have a bit of weight to it, and having a nice tablet stand to hold it while it is in use, is suggested. With my review I included pictures of the tablet stand that I made, it is a glued together assembly of poplar wood pieces which rests on the arms of my recliner, and it holds the weight of the tablet while I am sitting down using it, and this allows the tablet to be used for longer periods of time without the unpleasantness of having to hold the tablet in the hand. A suggestion I have for Samsung, which would make a better tablet owning experience, is to design a better charger, as the included charger is the same style of Samsung charger that is included with every Samsung Smartphone. I am sure that the included Samsung charger has upgraded internal components allowing for the quick charging using the included USB C cable, but the charger appears a bit plain, and it does not really match the premium feel of the tablet. The included Samsung charger is sufficient, but the tablet owning experience would be improved if Samsung added a more premium charger. Overall this is one of the best tablets available at this point in the Smart technology realm, I am rating this Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 at 4.5 out of 5 stars.

I am not going to bore you with specs since so many others do that. I am just going to give you my experience on using this Tablet for the last two days on one charge. So I have had this for 2 days now and the first day I was not happy. Mainly because I didn't know how to use this tablet. The second half of the first day I started to figure things out since there are no tutorials on YouTube yet. I bought this mainly for drawing and school. I wanted something portable that was tablet/pc or 2 in 1 Tablet. I first bought the Galaxy Book 12 inch 2 in 1 and loved it but I couldn't get the drawing apps I wanted so back it went. I then saw that Samsung Tab S4 was coming out on the 10th which was only like 4 days so I waited and ordered mine online the day they were launched. So long story short this tablet / PC is awesome. I don't know what all the fuss about older processor is about. I have had no lag time and I have loaded it with several drawing apps and had them all open at once with no issues. There is minimal bloatware. I looked at the Surface Go and Pro and I even bought an Ipad 12.9 to compare as I do like the Procreate app. but I just kept coming back to play on the Tab S4. I do have a complaint that I will pass on to Samsung. The pen holder sucks. If you grab your tablet the wrong way the pen will fall out. I am going to have to find a solution or I will lose it. I also find that I stay in the Dex mode more than the tablet mode. The key board is small and a little close but I am already adjusting to it. It comes with a lot of productivity software like word and office just to name two. I had locations on and have been using it non stop since 6 am this morning and I have 59% battery and it is 1 pm. I also used it yesterday for about 4 hours.So great battery so far. It is small enough to take with me and I just love an Android Tablet. The weight with the keyboard attached is minimal. I love the iris scan but I do wish they had added the finger print scan. Maybe next model. I am taking the Ipad 12.9 back as the screen resolution on it is fuzzy even with my glasses. I will be comparing it to the 10.5 Ipad today but I do feel that I will be keeping this Samsung Tab S4 and returning all others. So all in all a great little Tablet with large production capabilities. I would definitely check this tablet out you will be pleasantly surprised. Oh yes I almost forgot. You can lay this tablet flat without laying the keyboard upside down on the table. They really thought of everything. I posted pics about that too.

I moved to this tablet from an iPad Pro and have no regrets. For me, the Android operating system as well as Samsung hardware have matured to the point that I enjoy using them. I am pleasently surprised with both the build quality as well as the functionality of this device. I was skeptical prior to purchase based on several online reviews. It appears that the online reviews I read focused on the features this tablet does not have as opposed to focusing on the features it does have. First off is the quality of the build. This tablet looks and feels solid. Workmanship is tight and gives a sense of quality. At the same time I wonder how much day to day wear and tear an all-glass device can sustain. It is a fingerprint magnet - both the tablet and keyboard atract any oils on a persons fingers. Unexpectantly, this doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would, I am learning how to minimize touching viewing areas of the device as well as keep a lint free cloth with me. The screen colors and resolution are absolutely beaughtiful! Whether displaying photos or any of the content streaming services I use the visual experience is fantastic! The four corner sound is the best I have heard out of a tablet. I do use my Bose earphones when in any place that has background noise as the speakers are best suited for small rooms without audio distractions. The functionality of the applications I downloaded works well with this tablet in both the native and DeX modes. In the DeX mode I need to use the S-Pen as the controls on the windows are too small for my fingers. The battery life is good, but I can always use more, I frequently travel on long flights overseas and have not been able to test this device on one of those long flights yet. I have owned the tablet for just shy of one week. Absolutely no regrets on the purchase and the value. This one is a keeper for me!

Bought the newer S5e originally to replace my S2 and disliked its performance. The S5e's WiFi seems to have some issues in making good connection. Returned the S5e in one week and ordered the S4 instead. Love it! It runs much faster than the S5e while the battery lasts much longer than the S2. The S pen is superlative. Can't imagine life without it. The only minor complaint about the S4 is its weight. Although the difference is 482g vs S5e's 400g, it feels much heavier. Still it will not prevent me from preferring the S4. The 4GB RAM may matter to some but I can live with it. (It'd be much nicer to have S5e's 6GB, of course.) Funny thing is the S4 turned out to be cheaper than the S5e after the sale promotion and discount. Good deal!

I really like my Samsung S4 tab. The Dex feature is really cool to use like a desktop but in an ultra portable design. Now I can transform my car into an office without limitations in situations where I want privacy when I'm out or during my lunch hour when I want to escape my co-workers. I like that storage won't be an issue since I can add an SD card to this tablet. The screen is very sharp, colors vivid, and S pen is a convenient addition without the extra cost. The speaker quality is amazing. I detected the surround sound immediately compared to my other devices. This will enhance my Youtube & music listening experience. Overall, excellent device if u r looking for desktop features in a compact design w ultra portability & excellent battery life.

Let me start of by saying I have always been an android user and this is my 2nd android tablet. My previous tablet is like 4 years old and the improvements are amazing. The Samsung Galaxy S6 is smart little PC tablet. It can be a tablet or a PC with the keypad cover accessory. The detachable keyboard makes it easier to type and gives the tablet extra protection. It is magnetic,so it easily attaches to the tablet. The S-Pen is a nice feature, as an influencer it makes it easier to edit photos and videos using the pen. The accuracy is on point on the S-Pen. This has an AMOLED display which brings a true to life display. Tablet is light weight and easy to bring around with you. It fits my purse. I love how versatile this tablet is. This is a great addition to my Samsung family of gadgets. Great buy but a little pricey but still worth it!

The Galaxy Tab S4 is everything I could have hoped for in my first tablet. I have a Samsung Galaxy S9 phone, so the user interface with this tablet was immediately familiar and comfortable. Even better - my phone and tablet immediately synced so the apps that I have on my phone were right there on my tablet. If I put an appointment into my phone's calendar, it automatically shows up on my tablet's calendar. This tablet is fast, powerful and has a bright, colorful, gorgeous screen. It is sharp and easy to read even the tiniest print. Color images are slightly over-saturated, but I like them that way. The screen on this puppy blows the doors off my friend's iPad any day. When I'm using the built-in Samsung browser or Google's Chrome browser, I can move from one web site to another in the blink of an eye. That kind of speed was totally unexpected. I can open multiple tabs in either browser and move back and forth with ease. You can easily add extra storage by adding a micro SD card in the available slot. There is a headphone jack so you can use wired ear buds or opt for a blue tooth connection. It has a pretty impressive built-in speaker. My only disappointment with this tablet so far is the quality of the sound when listening to music with ear buds. I was hoping for really top quality sound to match that great looking screen. Alas, I was disappointed. The mid- and upper-range tones sound just fine. But I love a good, pounding bass and it's just not there. That's a small nit, I know, when you consider the whole package. When I first saw the price tag on the Tab S4 I had to wonder if I would ever use it enough to justify spending that much. Well, the answer is a resounding YES! It's become a regular part of my morning routine along with a hot cup of coffee. I check all my emails, I read my local newspaper, I check other news sites, do my online banking and bill paying, and maybe indulge in a little online shopping. I keep it on throughout the day, and it's fast and easy to pick up and check up on whatever I please. I highly recommend the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 tablet.
