About this product
Rameau is one of the universal geniuses in European musical history, on the same level as Bach, Mozart and HaydnInch, asserts conductor György Vashegyi. With this recording of Les Boréades Vashegyi completes an ambitious 10-year Rameau project, run in collaboration with the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles. The cast of Sabine Devieilhe, Reinoud Van Mechelen, Tassis Christoyannis, Thomas Dolié, Gwendoline Blondeel, Benedikt Kristjánsson and Philippe Estèphe is joined by the Orfeo Orchestra and Purcell Choir - both ensembles founded by Vashegyi. Devieilhe - who made her Erato debut with a Rameau recital - takes the central role of Alphise, Queen of Bactria, who must defy the traditions of her country if she is to marry the man she loves. The theme of freedom, 'la liberté', is important in the opera; conceived in 1763 to mark the end of the Seven Years' War, it had to wait more than 200 years for it's first full staging. When the performers on this recording appeared in a concert version of Les Boréades at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris, Concert Classique declared that InchRameau's genius shines through at every moment.

Breaking a silence of nearly 270 years an unexpected revival of Rameau's Achante et Céphise, this album is under the baton of Alexis Kossenko, with Les Chantres du CMBV and Les Ambassadeurs, starring Sabine Devieilhe, Cyrille Dubois, David Witczak, Judith van Wanroij. Jean-François Marmonte's libretto combines mythology and fairytale in a single subject, mixing the magical powers of the evil genie, Oroès, with traditional tributes to Venus and Love. A Inchcommissioned workInch for Rameau - there were only 14 performances and no revivals. Daring in both form and orchestration, the composer makes great demands on the technical skills of the performers.

In this album Mauricio Arias-Esguerra offers a kaleidoscopic view of recent Colombian piano music, highlighting it's striking stylistic variety. Germán Darío Pérez sees a traditional dance through a jazzy lens, and Blas Emilio Atehortúa takes a post-serial approach in his Preludio, Variaciones y Presto Alucinante. The influence of progressive rock music can be heard in Gustavo Parra´s Pavec Lingus, as can Jaime León´s love of US American music in his Made in U.S.A. preludes; and there is techno and angst in Ian Frederick´s Suite Catrina. Arias-Esguerra's own contributions are highly contrasted, with lyricism in his Arizona Mirage and rhythmic drive in his Toccata Bachkovsky.

Richard Strauss considered Mozart to be Inchthe most sublime of all composersInch. Both Mozart and Strauss wrote exquisitely for the soprano voice and Sabine Devieilhe, with pianist Mathieu Pordoy, has assembled a beautifully balanced programme of their songs. Among them is Strauss's sublime 'Morgen', which brings a guest appearance by violinist Vilde Frang. When Devieilhe and Pordoy performed Mozart and Strauss at London's Wigmore Hall, The Spectator wrote of a Inchheart-stopping sopranoInch who made the songs Inchsound dewy-fresh. Her voice picked up and outlined each word; long lines sounded spontaneous but wholly considered. The clarity and the lightly worn self-awareness of Devieilhe's singing made for a seductive combination.Inch
