About this product

Camiel Boomsma writes InchMany of the pieces on this album I have been carrying with me for many years already. In choosing these works for the recording, I was very conscious of that fact. The longer you carry a piece with you, the more you see 'who' the piece is rather than what it is. Liszt's music is like an unspoiled landscape. It's raw, fragile, strong, uncontrolled, poetic and paradoxical. One of the very first works I discovered was Vallee d'Obermann. When I play this piece, I ask myself to open up to this and observe the story that unfolds. To unfold is essential as well in Liszt's Liebestraum No. 3, Au bord d'une source and Chasse Neige. The common character of these pieces is in a way averse of expectations. It is as if Liszt himself as well did not know exactly how the musical story would unfold. And when the pieces unfold, they all communicate something very profound. The three works by Schubert- Gretchen am Spinnrade and Impromptus D899 No. 1 and No. 3- are in a subtle dialogue with Liszt. They represent my own inner dialogue as well, a dialogue between a certain poetic discretion and passion. With this album I have attempted again to search for the layers of the soul, that very specific moving language. Every piece I play is about this endless search. The beauty and expression lie in the fact that I will never find it. It is a continuous journey.Inch

Schubert / Chen - Grandes Sonates - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Pi-hsien Chen was born in Taiwan and grew up in Germany where she still lives. Among contemporary pianists she is one of the few who are really selfless for more than half a century she serves the good cause with full devotion, and without prejudices - Bach, the masters of the Viennese Classical School, the romantic heritage, or modern and contemporary music. She has become the latter's prophetic pronounciator with her authoritative interpretations of the piano works by Stockhausen and Boulez, as well as Cage and beyond. But Schubert is - as the new edition of his 'grandes sonates' proves - her 'heart music'. This bold enterprise on three albums presents those sonatas (D 568, 845, 850, 894) together that demonstrate groundbreaking progressiveness and were explicitly intended as 'grandes sonates' and published under that title. Chen underlines Schubert's emancipation from Beethoven as well as his dialogue with the titan in a manner that is discreet and sharp at the same time and herewith leads the listener into Schubert's innermost tonal language that transcends everything and articulates it's own world of real music of the future. To reveal this process until it's climax, Mrs. Chen adds two of the three 'legacy works' that Schubert wrote a few weeks before he died the sonatas in C minor (D 958) and in A (D 959) with their utmost dialectic tension who built the peak of the iceberg 'future'.... Chen leaves us without this most popular last sonata in B-flat (D 960) that conceals the abysses in enchanting beauty. She leaves us amidst the process, looking openly toward the unknown. In this interpretation Schubert's mediating function between yesterday and tomorrow becomes unmistakable in it's tragedy and greatness.

Schubert / Limburg / Frese - Die Einsiedelei - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Finally, it is here The continuation of the great musical adventure that the Camerata Musica Limburg is currently undertaking and for which we had to wait a whole year! The elite ensemble sings Franz Schubert's complete works for male choir with GENUIN. Three volumes have already been released. Once again, Jan Schumacher and his men will be joined by renowned musicians such as tenor Christoph Prégardien. The tonal palette of the clear and confidently intoned male voices ranges from the most gentle pleading of Gesangs der Geister to the vibrant radiance of a Schiller's Punschlied. The male vocal ensemble Camerata Musica Limburg was founded in 1999 and has since been under the direction of Jan Schumacher. For the members of the choir, the founding is a further development of the common musical roots that lie in the choir of the Limburg Domsingknaben. At the same time, the singers continue the unique tradition of the successful male chamber choirs of former Limburg Domsing boys in Germany.
