Schubert / Duo Lontano - Works for Piano Duo - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Schumann and Schubert's music is never simply cheerful their dark sides attack us suddenly, unexpectedly, either like a storm or by stealthily creeping up on us. Natalia Ehwald has selected two such works for the follow-up to the highly acclaimed GENUIN production Fantasias for Piano Schubert's late Sonata in A major and Schumann's early, InchsadInch Humoresque, op. 20. Ehwald does not try to smooth out anything; she never overlooks the roughness of the music but instead becomes involved, creating associations and thereby achieving a pianism of great suggestive power. This album is a lovely new discovery of two major works! Album Tracks 1. Piano Sonata No. 20 in a Major, D. 959 2. Humoreske in B Flat Major, Op. 20

Exciting perceptual shifts await the listener, presented here on the new Genuin CD by the Duo Lontano Mendelssohn's Hebrides Overture, suspended in a reverie, and the youthful-bubbly String Octet, which the composer himself arranged for black and white keys and four hands. The colorful images become transformed into dramatic black-and-white pictures and the structures emerge differently and more contoured than in the original version - particularly in the way the sensitive and excellently matched pianists Babette Hierholzer and Jürgen Appell - the Duo Lontano - embrace the tender romanticism of the works. Highly fascinating insights into the composer's workshop! Album Tracks 1. Octet in E-Flat Major, Op. 20 2. I. Allegro Moderato Ma Con Fuoco 3. II. Andante 4. III. Scherzo Allegro Leggiero 5. IV.
