About this product
Formed in the early 50s under the watchful eye of Tuskegee, Alabama, transplant Charles Chambliss, the Sensational Saints were handpicked from a Cleveland clothing store, a pool room, and from a group of friends singing from a third story window. After years spent rotating members and issuing stray singles for assorted non-denominational imprints, the group connected with the vocally inclined Reverend Melvin Kennie brew at the close of the 60s, making good on their Sensational boast. With God in their hearts and singing on their minds, the Sensational Saints mounted their crown jewel in 1973 with You Won't Believe It (Try It You'll Like Us). Pressed in conservative quantities by local gospel magnate James Bullard on his King James tag, the group's lone long-player perfectly encapsulates the intersection of funk and gospel as only the religious conversion of a Bill Wither's tune can do.

![Eisler / Falk / Schleiermacher - Lieder 3 - COMPACT DISCS [CD]](https://pisces.bbystatic.com/image2/BestBuy_US/images/products/9a49c6b4-44f0-44b5-ba60-fb64e5174fc3.jpg;maxHeight=422;maxWidth=264?format=webp)
The program of Vol. 3 of the Hanns Eisler project by Holger Falk and Steffen Schleiemacher- a meritorious endeavor that has already earned them various prizes- features songs from this composer's American exile. The Hollywood Songbook is a major work, even if measured solely by it's length and total of thirty-two pieces. Moreover, the concentration and intensification of the content attained by Eisler while he was residing on the Pacific Coast make this rather loosely organized collection of occasional pieces what is certainly the most important song cycle of the twentieth century. Unlike many other exiles, Eisler was extremely successful in California, both artistically and financially. In the expanding entertainment industry there was an increasing demand for new film music, which Eisler supplied both willingly and reliably. His songs reveal the other side of his life in exile yearning for home, reluctance to come to terms with his fate, and the insecurity of his life in exile. Once again Bertoit Brecht authored a great many of these impressive texts. The precise length of the Hollywood Songbook and the order of it's titles are not entirely clear. The usual order of the thirty-two songs was not presented in full until 1982, forty years after Eisler's death. Holger Falk and Steffen Schleiermacher complement this extensive cycle with some pieces from their temporal and topical context. The result is a most deeply moving, stellar song performance, presented with profound sympathy but without any edifying kitsch.

Vinyl LP pressing includes . Saintseneca are back with Such Things, their sophomore on Anti- Records. For this, the follow-up to their 2014 , Dark Arc, lead singer/songwriter and multi -instrumentalist Zac Little, has moved away from the cinematic, linear quality and sought an even higher ground for the new songs, by taking input and incorporating the ideas of his fellow members. The first single, InchSleeper HoldInch is a pulsating and infectious rock song that utilizes elements of punk, folk and straight up rock and roll, all centered around a soaring and beautifully anthemic chorus.

Numbered limited edition of 500 pink vinyl 12Inch mini LP with download.
