About this product
Seratones' aptly named sophomore POWER is described by poet and author Hannif Abdurraquib as a Inchglorious, swelling album...[a] sonic monument, and precise lyrical tapestry. AJ Haynes bends her gloriously malleable voice seamlessly around the temples of rock, and soul, and funk. All of them, unfurling in waves of keys, staccato percussion and wailing curves of guitar. InchBased in Shreveport, Louisiana, Haynes and founding members, drummer Jesse Gabriel and bassist Adam Davis, form the kind of laser-focused rhythm section that you only get from bandmates who've been playing together since they were teenagers. New members Tyran Coker (keys) and Travis Stewart (guitar) bring a fresh dynamic to the band with interstellar soundscapes and entrancing melodies, all while maintaining the emotional edge and intensity from their acclaimed proto-punk debut record Get Gone. POWER exemplifies a true strength in vulnerability, a kaleidoscopic view into Haynes' passions, hopes, and worries from her love of poetry to her advocacy for Reproductive Justice and racial equity. Hard-learned lessons from lovers and intimate friends. The struggles to adapt and overcome. POWER is as much a statement as it is a question, a semiotic exploration of sound and Soul.SIDE A 1. Fear2. Vinyl LP pressing. Love & Algorhythms is an interstellar synthesis of astral Soul, R&B, and sci-fi Funk. Working with producer Paul Butler (The Bees, Micheal Kiwanuka, Caroline Rose, Hurray for the Riff Raff), Seratones have taken the invitation to knock at the door of the cosmos. A.J. Haynes's voice dances with soul-stirring devotion at the altar of Black Feminisms weaving the words Toni Cade Bambara, Octavia Butler's Xenogenesis multiverse, echoes of bell hooks, and Audre Lorde's Power of the Erotic. With drummer Jesse Gabriel's machine-like precision and the transcendental touches from guitarist Travis Stewart, the album oscillates between Alice Coltrane-inspired bliss & Giorgio Moroder's ecstatic . Each song hovers and pulsates in the wide, dark matter'constellations guiding a journey through the subtle body, the vast fullness of the human experience and the irresistible potential of liberation.
Tenderpunk pioneer - Illuminati Hotties is the musical project founded by producer/writer, Sarah Tudzin. The new self produced album Power with co-production by John Congleton (St. Vincent, Death Cab For Cutie) features the Hotties trademark wit, vibrancy, and is undeniably fun. Tuzdin says about lead single Let Me In, InchI find that something I have in common with most people that I talk to lately is the immense fear of and inability to be alone with ourselves. Constant motion, avoidance, restlessness - anything to keep myself from stagnating have always been my coping mechanisms when my inner monologue starts to get loud.Inch Power features Cavetown on single Didn't. To support the album, the band is confirmed for a NPR Tiny Desk performance and kicks off their US/Canada headlining tour on September 25 running through November. Previous tours include support dates for boygenius, Death Cab For Cutie, Julien Baker, The Linda Lindas, The Beths, & Carly Rae Jepsen + Festival appearances at Pitchfork Music Festival. Songs by Illuminati Hotties appear in Fortnite and Netflix as well. The previous album, 2001's Let Me Do One More, landed on multiple Best Of lists, including NY Times, LA Times, NPR, Spin, Paste, Consequence, Pitchfork, & Esquire. Tuzdin contributed a song for Star Wars spinoff show InchAshokaInch, collabed with Duck's LTD, and produced music for Pom Pom Squad, Speed Ortiz, and Boygenius. Her work with Boygenius was nominated for 3 Grammy awards and won Best Alternative Music album. For Fans Of Mannequin Pussy, The Beths, Ratboys
