My Sony earbuds were stuck in the ANC mode so that I had to remove at least one of them because I couldn't hear anyone when they spoke to me, so I made an appointment with the Geek Squad to see what the protection plan covered. The contract Best Buy has with Sony for earbuds is to exchange the item, but Best Buy no longer carries the model I have, so they issued me store credit. The credit seemed to be lower than what I paid, but it was over a year since I had purchased them, so I didn't remember how much I paid for them. I looked at the replacement earbuds for the model I had and they cost well over the store credit I was issued, I then looked at, but couldn't decide on an alternative set of earbuds. I need earbuds that can connect to two devices simultaneously so I can connect to my Roku and my phone at the same time. I sometimes watch TV when others are asleep, and I don't disturb them. On weekends I'm up earlier than anyone else is, so I connected the Sony earbuds to my phone and either the Roku or my PC so I didn't disturb anyone. I couldn't make a decision, so I asked if they could cancel the return and I would bring the earbuds back when I made a decision, but I was told they couldn't cancel the return. Evidently there is a two minute window to cancel a return, so until I research the earbuds that I'm considering, I'm having to use earbuds that can only connect to one device. They emailed the receipt to me so I didn't look at it until we returned home, and after finally looking at it I saw a charge that I didn't understand that was deducted from the refund amount. The charge was the fee Best Buy charges for enacting the Best Buy protection plan when the item is past the manufacturer's warranty. Think of it like the deductible on car insurance, or an extended warranty. The reason for the three star rating is two-fold, the two minute window to change your mind about a return, and the fee for enacting a Best Buy protection plan return. They both should have been communicated to me at the time of the transaction, but they weren't. I probably would have decided at that point to look at their stock before committing to returning them at that. At least I would still have earbuds that do connect to two devices simultaneously and I wouldn't have to keep my phone on DND and risk missing notifications that may be important. Even considering the fee being charged against my refund, I still recommend the protection plan. In the event, like mine, where the item is no longer stocked, it does reimburse you for the bulk of the price you paid for your item.

I have been a total tech member for 5+years and it has paid dividends once I buy a product I can use it worry free because I know best but stands behind there warranty even when the manufacturer doesn’t

Service fee, Sch-mervice fee. It’s the cost to play the game.
