The boxes are then sold to a local auction house. Sherlock Holmes sets out to discover why a trio of murderous villains, including a dangerously attractive female, are desperate to obtain three unassuming and inexpensive little music boxes. The head of the gang belongs to a darkly, beautiful and ruthless woman, who is also a consummate actress as Holmes soon learns. She disguises herself as a charwoman and speaks Cockney, which both insults and berates both Holmes and Watson. The beautiful woman pretends not to recognize Holmes and Watson and she leaves with a music box right under their noses. Another fantastic tale of mystery and suspense which only the likes of the famous duo of Holmes and Watson can solve. (76 minutes - 1946 - Black & White - 4 3).

Sherlock Holmes - Terror by Night - DVD

Vivian Vedder (Renee Godfrey) is transporting her mother's deceased body in it's coffin via train to Scotland. Lady Margaret Carstairs (Mary Forbes) is also aboard the train with her famous Star of Rhodesia diamond. Roland (Geoffrey Steele), Lady Carstair's son, has hired personnel to protect the diamond. Shortly afterward, Roland is murdered and the diamond is stolen. Holmes (Basil Rathbone), is pushed out of the train, nearly to his death, but he climbs back inside and discovers a secret compartment in the coffin carrying Miss Vedder's mother. He suspects that one of the people on the train is the notorious jewel thief, Colonel Sebastian Moran (Alan Mowbray). Miss Vedder admits that a man paid her to transport the coffin. In the luggage compartment, Holmes and Watson find a guard murdered with a poisoned dart. A criminal named Sands (Skelton Knaggs) incapacitates the conductor and steals the diamond, but Moran double-crosses Sands, shooting him dead with the dart gun. The train makes an unexpected stop and a scuffle ensues, but you'll have to watch this classic Holmes mystery to find out how all of this ends. This is vintage Sherlock Holmes material... (57 minutes - 1946 - Black & White - 4 3).

Sherlock Holmes - The Woman In Green - DVD

The Woman in Green is a 1945 American film, the eleventh of the fourteen Sherlock Holmes films. The film stars Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes and Nigel Bruce as Dr. Watson. When several women are murdered and their forefingers severed, Holmes and Watson are called in to investigate. Widower Sir George Fenwick (Paul Cavanagh) has a romantic night at the apartment of Lydia Marlowe (Hillary Brooke), and is hypnotized into believing that he is responsible for the crimes. He is certain he is guilty when he awakes from a stupor only to find a forefinger in his pocket. His daughter discovers Sir Fenwick burying the finger and goes to Holmes and Watson with this information. Sir Fenwick is then found murdered by someone to keep him from talking, and Holmes theorizes that Moriarty, (Henry Daniell), who was supposed to have been hanged in Montevideo, is alive and responsible for the crimes. Holmes now realizes that Moriarty's plan involves killing women and cutting off their forefingers, making rich, single men believe they have committed the crimes, using this fake information to blackmail them and counting on the victims being too terrified to expose the scheme. Holmes befriends Lydia, whom he had seen with Sir George at a restaurant and suspects she is in cahoots with Moriarty. Moriarty then hypnotizes Holmes and tells him to write a suicide note and to walk out of Lydia's apartment onto the ledge and jump to his death. Watson arrives just in time to grab the criminals, but Moriarty escapes from the hold of the policeman and jumps to the top of another building. This movie has to be watched to find out how this never ending rivalry between Holmes and Moriarty ends. This is truly Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, not to mention Professor Moriarty, at their quintessential best! (66 minutes - 1945 - Black & White - 4 3).

Dressed to Kill - DVD

In Dressed to Kill, three seemingly ordinary music boxes arrive at a London auction house from Dartmoor prison, where inmates construct crafts for income. Sold to three different customers, the boxes soon generate a most sinister interest. When one of the buyers, a friend of Dr. John Watson (Nigel Bruce) is murdered and his box taken, Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone) quickly involves himself in the case. The last of fourteen films starring Basil Rathbone as Holmes and Nigel Bruce as Watson, Dressed to Kill is a superb ending to the Rathbone/Bruce series of adventures!
