This game was difficult even on normal mode. If you just want to enjoy the gameplay and story, I recommend easy mode. For those seeking a challenge but are not familiar with Atlus RPG mechanics, normal mode is for you. Hard mode is insane. The enemies will target your weakness to the point where you would just pull your hair out.

If you love the other SMT games or SMTIV, you will love this title. Excellent story, characters, combat.. lots of stuff to do, great world design. Highly recommended to all SMT and JRPG fans!

I pre-ordered this game and it came with the 3 pins, look for the sticker on the wrapper. My first SMT game was IV, so this game feels right at home. The changes that were made to this game (map navigation, support, and early and easy access to terminals to name a few) are welcome. A few dislikes include: -Unlocking additional MC and Demon Skill Expansion Apps are dependent on your level. -MC character design -Resistances and Weaknesses are standard. Null is pretty rare and I have yet to find Absorb. Point being that without null and absorb, I find demons less to worry about (which can be boring since there are less consequences). One thing you'll notice is that the demon starting levels have switched from the previous. For example, Legion starts at a very low level. Heqet, Myrmecolion, Mokoi are higher. Overall, it's a good game.

It's a somewhat different story and a game mechanic refinement of the Shin Megami Tensei 4, but the same world. I'm not that far in, but it catches your attention and gets going much faster than SMT 4, it's got a few reused maps but that's expected. I've heard that the story may be shorter compared to SMT 4 and mostly just having one main pathway. It's not that much of an issue since I almost always choose "neutral" path in SMT and this looks like it's basically the start of the neutral choice. I just hope they take an idea or concept from this and explore it fully to make up for lack of choice.

If you've ever played a Shin Megami Tensei title before, you know what you're getting. Collect demons, fight stuff, kill god. Similar to SMT IV but offers a different perspective on the story. This game is actually good for newcomers to the series since because of plot reasons, dying doesn't result in a game over, making it easier to practice and learn the game.

This is a sequel to Shin Megami Tensei IV, so it's highly recommended you play that first, but the gameplay is good for both casual and hardcore fans and the story is cool like SMT always is, though it's more "anime" than some of the older games were. If you're looking for a good JRPG and you liked SMTIV, you'll love this.

Ive played through practically every other shin megami in the series and this one (personally) doesn't disappoint. Its a great game that lasts hours on end.

The game is fun and challenging. If anyone who played SMT4's beginning portion remembers how difficult the learning curves was, no need to worry about that with Apocalypse. The pacing is much better, and the challenges aren't toned down.

I've beaten the game with true ending, it was very hard even on easy mode, love the game very much.

You play as Nanashi, a 15 year old Hunter apprentice in Tokyo. This game takes place during the Neutral route of SMT IV, sort of a "What if..." story. One day when you and your mentors are out hunting demons, you are killed in the middle of a battle, only to be greeted by rhe demon Dagda, who offers you life in exchange of becoming his puppet. Now, infused with the power of a demon, you must shape the future of Tokyo.

This entry in the SMT series re-purposes significant sections of the previous game (SMT IV), but takes the opportunity to improve on the formula in small but significant ways (re-tweaked combat rules, more-engaging partner system, expanded online features). It also lowers offers options that lower the series' notorious difficulty levels while also including options that will challenge even the most experienced players. Solid game so far and great pick for fans of the series or JRPGs in general.

Great entry with a solid story and battle system. Like a follow up to 4

This is truly a great sequel to SMT IV. Most of the mechanics from the last game return or are improved upon such as demon scouting. Some of the characters return from the last game, and there are some new characters as well. All in all, if you liked SMT IV, you'll like this game too. I also do recommend playing IV first so that you are aware of the scenario.

I'm about 41 hours in and loving this game so far. I played the original (Shin Megami Tensei 4) for about 90 hours, and still haven't gotten tired of these two games. Here are some general details about this sequel: 1. You recruit demons -- which tend to be gods and goddesses from folk lore or mythology-- through conversation. You have to fuse demons together to create stronger demons have a chance at beating this game. So you shouldn't get too attached to one demon. 2. The game is a turn-based RPG that uses the press turn system. You basically get extra turns in battle every time you exploit an enemy weakness. It's a very satisfying system. 3. The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic Tokyo. It's pretty dark overall, but it does have some fun moments throughout. You get a bunch of partners throughout the game that can aid you in battle, which is a nice touch. 4. The 3D effect is done well 5. The soundtrack is one of the best on the 3DS, in my opinion. Just listen to the Ikebukuro and Tokyo themes--my favorites. 6. I don't think you need to have played the first one to enjoy this game, but it would help since some things that are happening will make more sense. If this sounds like your cup of tea, you should pick this game up.

I bought this game without playing SMT IV. With that said I'm a little bit lost sometimes with the story tidbits. Regardless though it is not hindering my awesome enjoyment of the game. I would probably recommend to start from the first game since they are connected. But if you choose to start from here like I'm doing it's also good.

What a game! If you haven't played this series yet you're missing out. You can start with this one but I'd suggest starting from the beginning. This takes place during the same time as Shin Megami Tensei IV in an alternate universe. The RPG takes some planning, if you're too reckless you won't survive long.

There have been seemingly countless SMT games on DS and 3DS over the past few years. They are all great fun, but I can't help but feel a sense of familiarity starting to sit in. This game is still great, but I kind of felt like it was chore to get through it all. Battle system is still great. Creature designs are still great, but it might be time to add a new wrinkle or two!
