Marcelle Meyer - Piano Works Preludes - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Is there is any other pianist of the twentieth century who, like Marcelle Meyer (1897-1958), can boast such a close relationship with the composers of which she would later become the interpreter. Born in 1897 in Lille, she spent her life in Paris. She was a student of Marguerite Long and Alfred Cortot, and then of Maurice Ravel. Meyer collaborated with a very young with Debussy and performed the first ever recital entirely dedicated to the composer, including the famous Preludes and premiering the Etudes, at the Salle Gaveau. Meyer also became Erik Satie's favored pianist and she premiered Francis Poulenc's Sonata for piano four-hands together with Poulenc and also collaborated with Chabrier. Marcelle Meyer became the favored pianist of Les Six, also performing for Stravinsky and Milhaud. Indeed, Marcelle is the central figure in the famous portrait of Les Six by Jacques-Emile Balance. (The painting depicts Jean Cocteau, Germaine Tailleferre, Darius Milhaud, Arthur Honegger, Louis Durey, Georges Auric, Francis Poulenc and Jean Winer). In the last years of her life, Meyer fortunately recorded in stereophonic sound the best of her repertoire and between 1955 and 1957, she recorded the integral of Debussy's Preludes and the best of Emanuel Chabrier's piano works, recordings that this double box faithfully reproduces.

Shit Robot - No Cigar - 12-INCH SINGLE [12 inch Vinyl Single]

S**t Robot's InchNo CigarInch was recorded in London at Al Doyle andJoe Goddard's Relax And Enjoy Studios, a hanging Chad fromthe sessions that finished 2023's 5 Songs EP. This is slower, dubbier S**t, 110bpm with a spare arrangement and a barelysung vocal saying only, InchClose no cigar.InchIt begged for a proper dub for the b-side, something that threw itaround in space but didn't necessarily change it up, somethingthat sounded a bit like African Head Charge and New AgeSteppers and early-80s On-U Sound records. So we asked theguy who made those records, Adrian Sherwood, if he'd have ago. Miraculously, he said yes, and his version is actually exactlyon the money Album Tracks 1. No Cigar 2. No Cigar (Adrian Sherwood Dub)

Shit Robot - 5 Songs - 12-INCH SINGLE [12 inch Vinyl Single]

Inspiration can come at you fast, even after yearsgardening in the countryside.Marcus Lambkin aka S**t Robot is as original DFA asthey come a dyed in the wool Dublin rave kid turnedadopted New Yorker, the former co-owner of earlyDFA watering hole Plant Bar, and one of the guys whoshowed the uptight indie contingent how to neck an E,love techno and lose their marbles on a dance floor. But after three albums, countless twelves, and DJgigs around the world, where do you go? If you'reMarcus, you go gardening, retreating to a quiet life inthe German countryside, occasionally DJing for yourfriends in LCD Soundsystem when they invite you toopen a week's worth of shows, and working on musicwhen you can. Y'know, life stuff. So, it took awhile, but eventually new songs landedon the proverbial desk at DFA HQ. There were roughand tough. The Robot had returned and he was goingstraight for the chugular. After all that, finishing the record was like lightning ina bottle. A few days fleshing things out with Al Doyle(of Hot Chip, LCD Soudnsystem) in London. Vocalsadded from Suzi Horn (of Prinzhorn Dance Schoolon the leadoff) and Warmduscher's Mutado Pintado.A razor-sharp mix of the whole thing from JamesMurphy at DFA in Brooklyn.Five tightly wound, unfussy, completely diabolicaldance tracks. The gardener shall have his revenge. It's time to lose those marbles all over again.
