A: This Glassbreak Sensor is an add-on component for the complete SimpliSafe Security system. It's not able to function on its own. But when paired with a system, it can trigger an alarm and a siren from the Base Station.

A: Not sure how many you will need, I installed one in every room with a window. I believe you can install within 12 ft of the window.
