Sleep Party People - Lingering - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Trixies, the new studio album by Squeeze, could have been their very first record. Written by Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook when they were just 19 and 16 respectively, Trixies is a concept album born of imagination and nostalgia. Inspired by a fictional members' club dreamt up in the early '70s and imagined as existing in the InchfutureInch (the '80s), the album channels a world reminiscent of a '20s or '30s speakeasy - glamourous, smoky, and populated by colorful characters. Although the album was demo-ed at the time it was never released, and only revisited decades later. Now, the record is fully realized with today's musicianship and production, combining teenage brilliance with seasoned artistry; it's lyrical themes and narrative sweep offering fertile ground for storytelling and immersive campaign touchpoints. Sleep Party People's Brian Batz dives into the darker edges of orchestral pop on new album Heap of Ashes. Influenced by primarily Bulgarian choral music, old-school metal, and 21st century experimental composition, the music of Sleep Party People exposes every facet, every moment, and every wound, finding beauty even when the last glow of hope looks like it's ready to fade into the ashes. Heap of Ashes includes contributions from Halvcirkle, GNOM, and Sound of Ceres' K Hover.

This guitar/drum duo's debut is a collection of tightly crafted pop songs, played with such spontaneity and intensity it secures them a seat in the highest council of the avant-garde. It's a hybrid of carefully composed classical arrangements set atop earth shattering rock rhythms. Engineered by Rusty Santos (Animal Collective, Vashti Bunyan). I & Ear Records. 2005.
