About this product

Less than a year after the of sophomore album Origin and Echo, Snow Palms return with a powerful two-track EP almost 18 minutes of music in total. A-side 'Everything Ascending' sees Snow Palms mainstay David Sheppard's signature pulsing electronics and crystalline glockenspiels augmented by the production, keyboard and compositional skills of Matt Gooderson (Infadels), the vigorous, rhythmic clarinets of Christian Forshaw (Michael Nyman Band, Icebreaker) and the soaring vocal flights of Megan Gooderson. Over ten minutes in length, this is an undulating, inexorably unfurling odyssey, oscillating seamlessly between passages of mesmeric electronic rhythm, choral-enhanced minimalism and gorgeous, gamelan-like ambience. While there may be echoes of Four Tet, Terry Riley, Steve Reich and Midori Takada's Mkwaju Ensemble along the way, ultimately 'Everything Ascending' proffers a uniquely rapturous sonic realm that is pure Snow Palms, predicated, according to Sheppard, on the idea of 'pushing on - striving for optimistic, sunlit uplands, even as the world around us seems to be turning darker. AA-side 'Circling', meanwhile, is a bold orchestral reimagining of one of the highlights from Origin and Echo. The work of fellow Village Green artist and renowned film music arranger/orchestrator Matt Dunkley (Inception, Black Swan, Iron Man), this is a brilliant repositioning of Snow Palms' music in the emotion-soaked cinematic idiom, the original's rich melodic palette and powerful rhythmic undertows beautifully reworked for elaborately layered, potently arranged strings.A Everything AscendingAA. Snow Palms - Origin & Echo - VINYL LP

David Sheppard first conceived Snow Palms as a vehicle for music played on mallet instruments (metallophones, glockenspiels, xylophones, marimbas, etc), devices that have featured intermittently across almost two decades-worth of the multi-instrumentalist's miscellaneous collaborative projects that include State River Widening, Ellis Island Sound, The Wisdom of Harry and Phelan-Sheppard, among a host of others. Snow Palms' 2012 debut album Intervals won a sheaf of approving notices for it's ineffably cinematic blend of polyrhythmic percussion and richly melodic orchestration, partly achieved in collaboration with arranger-composer Christopher Leary (aka Ochre). Two years in the making, the follow-up builds on the foundations of it's predecessor, with a heavy quotient of metallophones, glockenspiels and marimbas at it's core, but largely eschews the latter's chamber arrangements in favour of soaring synth-scapes and a palette of spectral ambient and electronic textures.

Palmistry - Afterlife - VINYL LP

Vinyl LP pressing. Palmistry is the project of London-based vocalist, songwriter and producer Benjy Keating, known for his stripped back pop and forward thinking production. His second album Afterlife was written in a heatsick haze in Athens, Greece and the Mixpak Studios in Brooklyn, NY, and further pushes his knack for intimate and heartfelt earworms that grapple with disconnection, devotion and the emotions in between. While his debut album Pagan was a self-contained effort, with Afterlife Palmistry cracks the door open to some accomplished friends who bring their own colors and textures to his singular world. There's woozy anthem InchWaterInch produced by Sophie, InchTru LuvInch - a duet with Miami- based vocalist Toian produced by Benny Blanco, as well as assistance from Ghanaian artist Klu, Cashmere Cat and Mechatok. Afterlife is pop at the edges, with poetry at the core, evoking bodily sensations, lucid dream states and fractured memories - the slice of an orange, the patter of rain on a car roof and the crushing weight of city life.

Sortilege - Apocalypso - VINYL LP

Limited double vinyl LP pressing. Includes bonus LP, Phoenix, which features re-recordings of their most notable early tracks. The mighty Sortilège are true pioneers of French heavy metal. From their 1980 inception, and [the] prolific six-year run that followed, the quintet paved the way for a generation of French bands and labels to follow. 'Apocalypso', their first album of new material in over 30 years, flies the flag of heavy metal loudly and proudly. Led by their vocalist Christian InchZouilleInch Augustin, the new incarnation of Sortilège steps back into the limelight with metal as timeless as it is classic.
