L'Echo du Danube is the poetic title given by Johann Schenck to his collection of pieces for viola da gamba, first published around 1703/04 as Opus 9 in Amsterdam by Estienne Roger - the most important music printer at the time. L'Echo du Danube is Schenk's last complete work to survive, a fact that gives these pieces the weight of a musical testament. It comprises six sonatas for solo viol the first two sonatas with basso continuo accompaniment, the next two also with basso continuo but this time ad libitum (optional), and the two last ones for viola da gamba without any accompaniment. Although Marin Marais already had published his first book of Pièces de Viole in 1686 and the flourishing English viol tradition was well known in Northern Europe, Schenk's approach to the instrument is an important step in the process of creating an independent repertoire, specifically written for the viol by composers who were themselves performers and masters of it's idiomatic idiosyncrasies. Although Schenck fully explores the potential of the viol as a melodic instrument, he clearly favoured, it's possibilities of playing chords, in a manner strongly influenced by lute playing and repertoire he sought to show the viol as an instrument that is harmonically independent, appropriate for polyphonic writing besides it's talent for melodic singing. Hence his writing in such a distinctive way abundantly using chords and double stops; continually alternating between the bass and the high register; and striving for an effective combination of luxurious harmony and depth of sound, without losing sight of the delicately cantabile voice of the viola.

Bang, boom, BONGINATOR! Madness reigns supreme on the sophomore full-length of the American death metal fanatics InchRetrodeathInch marks the birth of a new sound, not just for the band but also for the genre. The weed-devouring youngsters have actually put a lot of work into their new songs. Well, if you call immersing yourself for months into '80s action and horror movies as well as playing loads of old video games... 'work'. Then again, more days were spent with researching and emulating the exact synths used in the '80s to reconstruct some of their favourite soundtracks. The result is a fresh and somewhat happily unhinged sonic monster that has been carefully bred by BONGINATOR selectively crossing traditional US death metal, synthwave, and 16-bit computer game sounds. When vocalist and guitarist Erik Thorstenn channelled his love for death metal and weed into the creation of BONGINATOR in 2021, it was not intended as a challenger to incumbents such as CANNABIS CORPSE and WEEDEATER. The band from the New England state of Massachusetts already had a clear vision to carve out their own musical claim. The conceptual idea behind the crazy world of BONGINATOR appeared very much to revolve around a bunch of stoner kids taking on a horde of blood-thirsty aliens and then embarking on an intergalactic road trip to the darkest corners of the universe. Ernst von Dohnanyi was interested in various inventions throughout his life, so it is not surprising that around 1909-1910 he became one of the main promoters of pianos with a semi-circular keyboard. At that time, they had long been experimenting with creating the most comfortable keyboard possible, with all it's parts being at the same distance from the pianist, and being able to play it with the same body and hand position at the bottom, middle or top of the keyboard range. It seems that the Viennese Ludwig Bosendorfer started making pianos with a concave keyboard (Bogenklaviatur) only in 1910, and Dohnanyi used them exclusively in the territory of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. After Dohnanyi moved home to Budapest at the end of 1915, one of his own pianos was the short Clutsam-Bosendorfer, which is currently owned by the Budapest Museum of Music History. This CD offers the first recording of this special instrument after a long time restoration.
