Sonic Forces is just average from what I played. It's a step down compared to Sonic Generations. There's no drifts, no customizations for boosts & other skills (if you ever played Generations). For Modern Sonic, even when you boost, it doesn't feel quite as fast as he did in Generations & about half the time, the game goes auto-pilot on certain curves & turns slightly for you, even when you hold the boost button, which kinda annoyed me because it feels like they don't think you'll be able to beat the stages on your own. Classic Sonic has some of the worst physics & momentum when you play as him although his stages aren't bad. You just have to get used to landing platforms on his weird air momentum. That's pretty much it. As for the Avatar... I thought it was gonna be the worst part of the game only to end up being my favorite (which isn't saying much). The Avatar char. has a weapon called Wispon which lets you use different types of Wisps: Burst is a flamethrower, Lightning is an electric whip kinda weapon, just to give an example. Getting a Wisp item of your choice will grant you a Super, depending on which Wisp you choose, such as the Burst gives you an exploding jump to get to higher platforms & lightning gives you a ring/enemy dash. From a person who likes Modern Sonic stages in Sonic Generations, my favorite out of the three is the Avatar stages with Modern Sonic being my least favorite because of certain parts of each stages where Sonic goes auto-pilot & he has a few QTEs for some reason. The bosses weren't all that great either. Boost, homing attack 3 times, rinse & repeat for most of them. I'd give it a 6/10. It's not a bad Sonic game but it's not a great Sonic game. It's a meh Sonic game. If I we're you, I'd wait for a price drop (around $20 or so).

This new Sonic melds the old-school style of Classic Sonic with the free-running 3D experience of the later Sonic games. It is great to see so many familiar faces from previous Sonic games in high-resolution. This is a fun addition to the series!

Sonic games are always hit or miss in terms of quality and this one falls in the "meh" category. Its not terrible but its not amazing either. Its just Ok. If you have played any current modern Sonic game such as Sonic Unleashed, Colors or Generations the game play is nearly identical which isn't necessarily a good thing. Being the first Sonic game on a true next generation console I expected a little more improvement in the gameplay and graphics department but what we got was actually a step back from what the previous games had already established. Mechanics that were previously introduced like drifting around corners is now gone replaced with the game doing it for you. While it looks cool its take away actual input thus causing a lot of the levels to feel "automated" and that's problem with the majority of the game. Most the modern Sonic levels can be beaten by simply holding the analog stick forward for a couple of minutes and the level ends. They brought classic Sonic back but somehow he controls worse than he did in Generations. Rolling down hills will not carry your momentum causing you to abruptly stop, and the levels are filled with "hidden" springs for no good reason. You can create and customize your own character which is a neat addition but it still doesn't help the somewhat boring level design. The custom avatar gets a few new tools such as the ability to use weapons called "wispons" which add a little variety but it quickly becomes mundane when the enemies just stand there posing no threat whatsoever. Big disappointment for a game that supposedly been in development for 4 years.

According to my 10 year-old son, this is the "best Sonic game ever." I am not sure I completely agree, but it is definitely a fun Sonic game. Graphics are colorful and engaging and it mixes the classic gameplay mechanics with some new twists.

I haven't played a Sonic game since the Genesis days and I'm having fun with this one. It could've been longer but it's definitely the best entry in the franchise since the 90's in my opinion.

This game won't blow you away, but it's a quality made game and a lot of fun. I'm a serious gamer and had fun with it, and I have 5 year old twins that have enjoyed it as well.

It's an easy game. My 9yo finished the main game it in less than a week. Now she is working on mastering all the levels and collecting trophies. We really enjoy the graphics and story line.

Fun game. Definitely different than your average Sonic game. I like that you can create your own character
