Completely UnderRated Lens, Bang 4 your Buck A+
This is an amazing lens that is completely portable, has great color rendition and is extremely sharp in the center. Optical Stabilization gives you the ability to hand hold in low light for razor sharp images. This 16-50 lens condenses down to pancake size when not in use and can be extended up to 100mm with digital clear zoom, while maintaining excellent image quality. This kit lens will give you outstanding results and an extremely useful effective range of 24-75, the perfect mid range zoom. Don't listen to the negative reviews, this is a quality lens, Sony hit a home run and the upgraded lenses are much more expensive for very little gain in IQ. Use this lens, work on your photography, develop your skill set and THEN go look for new lenses. This could very well be the only lens you ever need on the Sony crop system. Happy shooting

Great compact lens
The SELP1650 is a great compact lens for Sony's small E-mount cameras. It's telescoping design is perfect for small bags and purses. It is certainly not the sharpest or brightest lens in the E-mount line, but it is adequate for vacation photos, snapshots, and other low-demand settings and it works well with the phase-detect autofocus on many of Sony's newer mirror-less cameras. The lens also has optical stabilization. The SELP1650 has a single ring that functions both as a zoom (when in automatic focus mode) and a focus ring (when in manual focus mode). A slide on the side of the lens can be used to zoom in either focus mode.

Great travel lens!
I read Ken Rockwell's review where he compared this lens to the Sony/ Zeiss 24-70mm f4. He stated that two were on par in image quality but, this one at a fraction of the cost. He was right! Granted, this is not a pro lens but it excels in portability and features; OSS, power zoom and pancake design.
