We originally were looking at another brand TV, After we went to Best Buy and compared the quality of the picture and color of this Sony TV we just had to change our mind and go with the Sony Truer blacks and whiter whites, and and a sharper picture. We also decided to go with a 55 inch instead of a 47 in. So glad we did. We have it in our bedroom where we watch a lot of tv. We were thinking about adding a sound bar but actually the speakers are pretty good on this TV so I don’t think we will need them. The smart features are great and easy to use. We are happy we chose this one

The picture is beautiful but the tv seems to have a mind of its own. The mic on the remote comes on suddenly without touching it. Although it hasn’t done that lately. It is difficult to switch from things like YouTube back to regular tv. I’m chalking that up to my lack of technical skills...but... The sound is adequate but I love the Sony sound bar I purchased with it.

Great right out of the box no tweaking required. X1 ultimate chip is fast and responsive. Everything I was expecting. Huge upgrade from my old Plasma tv. Plus I am counting on the Sony reliability. I have never had a Sony product that wasn’t worth the money...

Researched Sony TV's on the market. For my viewing needs, this TV features, tech, components and measurables hit the spot! Found an open box, what I thought was an Excellent deal. Open-Box Excellent states, includes all original parts. Per the retailer website and manufacture set up guide the stand is variable (48 1/2' or 31 7/8"). Note, no paperwork associated with the TV was included. Photos of included stand, not product original or per specs. Per store employees, Sony does not manufacture variable width stands for their TVs and the legs included are the original parts. Who is correct employees of retailer or Sony? Beware of the open box.

My trusty KS8000 55" decided to fail a few weeks ago. Luckily I had a Squaretrade policy on it and they paid me back the price of the TV. So that sent me looking for a replacement. I REALLY wanted an OLED and was tempted to buy the LG CX series but I just didn't want to have to babysit my and my family's viewing habits to prevent burn in. So I began looking at LED's I was gun shy about buying another Samsung and this time I also wanted Dolby Vision. So I initially looked at LG but their non OLED TVs were IPS screens, which I didn't want. So I looked at Sony. Unfortunately with Covid 19, it wasn't really feasible to see sets in person. But after reading the reviews, the X950H stood out, so I pulled the trigger on the 55". I am very glad I did. The picture on this is fantastic. Much deeper blacks than my KS8000 and the color and HDR really looked great and pop and are accurate, even with reduced settings. It is also full array dimming, with many zones, unlike my edge lit KS8000. It has excellent motion handling and great clarity, even on the non 4k pictures. What is also nice is it supports Dolby Vision, something my Samsung didn't do. It has a lot of different picture settings that allow you to personalize how you like it. It has supports both Dolby Vision Light and Dark profiles. Android TV is quite good(although I had to use an optical connection, see below for details). It probably has more apps than other TV brands(although no Apple TV+). About the only complaint I have is that there is some type of bug in the current Android TV version that makes it so once I get ARC working, if I turn everything off, when I turn it all back on, while my receiver(Denon) sees the connection and switches to the ARC audio, I get no sound at all. I have to either switch to another HDMI port, turn off the TV, then back on and switch back to the ARC port or just unplug the TV for s sec. This issue seems to be affecting many Sony Android TV models, across the entire brand, so I'm guessing the bug is in Android TV itself. I use an Nvidia Shield 2019 anyway, so this isn't as big a deal as it may be to some others. All in all, this is a fantastic TV with a great picture and good built in apps(minus the ARC issue). Definitely worth the purchase.

I am comparing this to my 10-year old 52" Sony XBR that was covered with serious clouding and not surprisingly there is a big difference in picture quality and of course it is also 3" bigger. Out-of-the-box, the whites are whiter and the blacks are much blacker. The color range is far greater and as a result, one see's far more colors never seen before. Scenes look totally different and far more colorful than on my old XBR. The contrast is also much better. The wide-angle viewing is very good as well and is supposedly improved over last years "G". Set-up was easy. The picture is, IMO, so good that I do not see the need for an OLED which, BTW, uses about 60% more power if you compare the power consumption of the Sony 55" OLED in their specifications. The bezel is super thin and looks nice. The sound is only "acceptable". You are never going to achieve good sound from tiny speakers on the back sides and bottom. Long gone are the days when the flat panels came with the large vertical speaker panels on both sides of the picture screen. The only two negatives so far are as follows. There is a very small but annoying amber LED that sometimes appears and stays on at the bottom of the TV on the LH side of the center mounted area that receives the remote signals etc. There is no manual and the online information is lacking and does not explain that annoying amber LED that turns on all of a sudden and stays on until the next day when you turn on the TV again. The other is the fact that the new remote was described at the CES and in other initial reviews as being back lighted. It is not and yet when you watch a review from HDTVTest of this same Sony TV from England, the remote is back lighted. So, I am sure the USA market for Sony is one of its' largest if not the largest and yet we get less. This, I do not understand. Same TV, same model, same box, but the contents are different. I should also add that my 10-year old 52" Sony XBR has a beautiful remote and it is back lighted! Why is something this simple and basic not included in their top-of-the-line LED LCD TV when they were providing this 10 years ago. Even our cable box remote is back lighted and has been for over 10 years.

For this price range, I don’t know if you can beat the Sony x950h. Its main competitors are the Samsung Q80/Q80T QLED and the Vizio P Series Quantum X 2020, and after carefully comparing the picture and specs of all 3, I went with the Sony x950h. Aesthetically speaking, it’s a moderately slim, streamlined television with thin aluminum bezels. The feet are fully metal and adjustable to fit smaller stands. I have seen complaints about wobble troubles, but I haven’t experienced this so far. Of course this poses no issue if you have it mounted on the wall. There are two clips that attach to the feet, which serve as cable management. I am a neat freak and love organizing so this is a nice feature for me. The inputs are facing sideways, making them easier to access when wall-mounted. Because of its design, I was able to fit it with an ultra-slim wall-mount bracket (for select Sony BRAVIA models), and it sits so flush to wall that it almost hangs like a picture frame above my fireplace. Now on to the most important stuff: Picture: Everything I watch on this television looks like near-4K HDR due to the powerful Picture Processor X1 Ultimate. The detail and color with HDR1, Dolby Visions 9, IMAX Enhanced 10 and Netflix Calibrated Mode are beautiful. Unlike most televisions, it has wonderful color accuracy, contrast, and great black uniformity straight out-of-the box so it required little (if any) calibrations, which is a plus. After calibration, the color accuracy is exceptional. It has excellent SDR and HDR peak brightness as well as outstanding reflection handling. The motion handling is pretty impressive with a fast response time. It’s got smooth, judder-free movie playback, as well as stutter-free motion from 60Hz content on Netflix and YouTube. It’s great for most gaming as it has a low input lag, but does not have advanced features such as VRR, that’s needed for the newest and most powerful games currently on the market. It delivers a great HDR experience and upscales lower resolution content from cable TV well. It has a full array local dimming feature that makes for good dark room viewing. Its got outstanding reflection handling, which means visibility isn’t a problem even in very bright rooms with sunlight. The gray uniformity is pretty good, which is a positive for sports fans. I do notice vignetting in the corners which might be be distracting for some, but this improves some during dark scenes. It’s also a good choice for use as a PC monitor as it can display chroma 4:4:4 and is immune to permanent burn-in as it is a VA panel. Sound: It supports eARC, allowing it to pass high-quality audio like Dolby Atmos via TrueHD and DTS:X via DTS-HD over an HDMI connection. The frequency response is good. There's a room correction feature to tune the sound according to your room's acoustics. It does sound clean at moderate volume levels, but I notice a significant amount of distortion when playing near max volume. This isn’t surprising as most televisions, if it not all, need soundbars (and even external speakers and a sub) for the best audio experience. That being said Sony did place small speakers on each side of the TV, located just below the top, in order to add a sense of directionality and spaciousness to the sound. Working with the two down-firing speakers at the bottom of the TV. While I would not characterize the sound as high fidelity, I will say that the sound is far better than most TVs and adds some immersion to action-packed movies. (I’d still recommend a sound system to match the audio experience with the visuals this tv produces.) It runs on the latest version of Android TV. It's easy to use and it runs very smoothly. Bonus: It had no ADS, which I appreciate, but it does show suggested content on the Home Screen. However, if you don't want to see suggested content, there's an option to disable it in the settings menu! It also works with AirPlay 2 to easily stream content from your Apple device. And it’s compatible with Google Nest Devices, Amazon Alexa, and Apple Home. I have my Google Nest doorbell and Nest speakers linked to it. It uses Google voice search function, Chromecast is built-in (Google Cast), internet browsing, and the YouTube app. These are available without logging in to a Google account, but can be synced to your compatible devices and existing accounts. Overall, because the x950h lacks the support for variable refresh rate (VRR) and ATSC 3.0 tuner, HDMI 2.1 ports and HDR10+ Support, I wouldn’t say it’s the top choice for gaming with a PS5 or XBOX. If you’re on a budget and game, the 900h is the better for you. I would however, suggest this model to cinephiles (like myself) who lack big budgets. It’s got a great value for the picture and performance. While there are a number of cheaper TVs out there that achieve similar performance, none have the X1 Ultimate Processor, support for Dolby Vision and the latest version of Android TV.

The picture quality out of the box is excellent. With a few minor tweaks it is even better. Sony's motion engine is best in class. I was effortlessly able to adjust the settings to see movies without any soap opera effect or too much judder. In my view this is the most important feature to master. The TV is amply bright, and HDR content when played doesn't seem dull in a bright room. The TV automatically adjusts the picture settings when playing HDR content. I also looked at OLEDs when deciding, but Best Buy puts their OLEDs in a dark room for a demo and in retail mode settings; so I didn't have a good comparison. I like the Android TV layout. Its fast, and intuitive as well. Picture settings and apps are neatly layed out, and the google assistant is very handy for searching things. Google assistant is again the best assistant out there, and so much better than Alexa on Kindle Fire (Alexa doesn't understand context and voice as well). Kudos to Google! My only gripe with the software is on searching within the Apps. It seems Netflix and Prime Video apps are not searchable. i.e. when you search for a movie, it will not search within these apps. I understand Prime video probably cripples this feature as it already has a competing platform but Netflix should certainly have worked! Overall, I think this TV is a really good investment and should certainly last a good number of years.

We first purchased Samsung Q80T and that gave us digital sickness which is the same as motion sickness and that's with true motion off and the settings optimized thankfully with the Sony we did not experience any of these problems I don't know if it's because there's less than half of the amount of back gliding on the Sony TV but it's definitely bright enough. I'll start with the pros This is the first TV where brightness actually doesn't create a hazy look when you lower it the TV just darkens and when you bring it up it just brightens like the word brightness should do again only Sony has this feature we also have two LG OLEDs a c7 and a c8 and OLED brightness does this as well but I'm just comparing LED backlit TVs in this situation. Second I got the TV on my birthday the 21st I purchased it on the 16th as they had none in stock and I did think about getting the $900 and did notice that the 65-in is now under $1,000 I think it's $970 and the 55-in 925 which is a great deal but when I look into the TV the processor it had was from 2018 and it had a lot less things that I wanted in a TV. so not only did I pay the $1,200 I also bought the 5-year protection plan on it for the fact that this is my first Sony TV / Android TV. All my phones are Android so I'm very familiar with that The interface is okay I'm not going to say it's great but I will say this if Sony kept their settings exactly the way they are as far as picture control and just change their user interface from Android to LG's with the magic remote it would be the perfect TV. As the Sony 950H I have put side-by-side with the LG OLED c8 and dialed it in as close as possible to my OLED The blacks are beautiful I've went on YouTube and done Dolby Atmos test for picture and sound and I'm running an LG sound bar with it and it sounds phenomenal it's a 3.2.1 and it blows the Sony 3.1 away and that was a $700 soundbar by Sony and I got this one for $100 2 years ago but the fact is this is a 2 channel where Sony only made a one channel so mine has a separate channel for vocals and voices. So now I have a TV that's almost oled it's got amazing sound and I don't mean the factory speakers no TV has good factory speakers But with the LG soundbar it is true surround sound DTS everything but atmos it is funny though my wife and I trip out in the kitchen sometimes if crickets or rain is dropping and we'll look out the window That's how good it sounds. The only thing that bothers me relating to the interface on the sound is and I'll start with the good is when you're hooking it up on easy one two three setup and ask you on your soundbar would you like the TV to turn the soundbar on when the TV turns on obviously I would but it doesn't ask would you like to have the TV turn off when you power off the TV which it needs to because when you turn off the TV it turns the sound bar to mute it doesn't just not do anything which would be better it turns it to mute and I've looked everywhere and there's no fix for this. I have to say if this is the worst problem I'm lucky I've heard of people that get no sound when they run ERK I've run optical it sounds phenomenal but you can't use the TV remote so the only thing I need the LG sound bar remote for is to turn it off the power so I do use the ark channel And I know even though I'm using the four th HDMI port for my Xbox it's not 2.1 but at least they did do a gaming mode with low latency and a decent variable refresh rate. I don't understand why they would do it for the $900 that has a lesser picture and a worse processor and not do it for the newer TV that is out selling the 900 like crazy they're hard to get. Okay so the positives are the pictures amazing when you get it dialed in The sound is great with the sound bar as long as you have at least a 3.2.1 if you want to go 5.2.1 or higher how about it I have a 5.2.1 but I use that one with my LG OLED and that one is an atmos. The negatives the interphase is lame I'm so used to the magic remote and being able to go on a browser and go up and click x well guess what your Android TV doesn't even come with chrome That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard of as every Android phone tablet device in the world comes with chrome when you go on your computer which you have this is the way they did it several years ago you would go under Google chrome on your computer and then even though it says installed you click that button installed and then it'll show compatible devices and then it will show your TV name and you would hit install the TV when I did it it pulled up the 950H and it said TV not compatible and I was livid. So I ended up downloading at first the Sony browser which sucked and I removed immediately and then a generic browser which I could actually use Google on and get to open more than one page at a time which was driving me nuts but there still is no ex in the upper right hand corner to close out of the browser I'm guessing you're just supposed to hit home to leave but I've never left a computer in my life or a phone without closing out of the app I'm in it's just seems stupid. Whereas my LG OLED c8 and c7 came with a generic browser and unlimited search tabs at the top so that way if say a spam ad popped up it didn't redirect you because there's only one page it just works seamlessly to say easily. And there's a big old ax in the right corner to close out then you have the advantage of all of your tabs and your apps being at the bottom of the screen so you can still see 90% of the show you're watching instead of closing out of your entire TV to go to the app you want Honestly Sony has made so many mistakes with their TVs there are so many people that have said they have some great features in their previous models that they stripped away in the 900h I'm just glad that the 950H has some really great features and an amazing picture with great color accuracy, and I have to admit it was very easy to set up. But Sony needs to get on the ball I spend 2 hours today wondering why my Google play movies app would not play my 4K movie that I purchased okay now mind you I've only had this TV since September 21st and it's October 4th and it worked when I tested the free movie ice age that comes with it well after 2 hours of searching everywhere uninstalling the app reinstalling the app clearing the cash I finally tried one last thing and that was uninstalling the app which technically doesn't uninstall it it just uninstalls the updates and as soon as I did that I said you know what let me try it without the updates and guess what it worked I was able to finally watch the 4K movie I paid for in 4K without having to stream it from my phone to the TV. Oh and one last thing I love that they're making the new Google Chromecast with a remote and a voice feature on it, I also already own a 4K Chromecast what I don't understand is on a $1200 55-in Sony 950H why they don't have a 4K Chromecast built in Sony is cutting corners big time. Also you can't even overpower the built-in Chromecast with the 4K plug-in Chromecast doesn't work turns on turns right off the built-in one overpowers it. Looks like I'll be getting a Roku stick and trying that out because I do not like the fire sticks and what's the point of having another Google Chromecast if it's not even going to work with the TV. The last thing I'm going to say is whoever wants to make a lot of money look at how they made the Google Chromecast now there's the up down left right button and the voice okay Nolan void that and change the up down left right button to a magic remote where you can use it like an air mouse like the LG magic remote if you make any streaming service with that you are going to get paid LG should have already created it LG streaming app they have IPTV with over a thousand free channels all they need to do is create a streaming service and include a mini magic remote so that way you can easily go through your browser because you know when you try and talk you never get the exact words you want so you got to go to typing oh and that's another thing I hate on Sony is they decided instead of using every other manufacturer's keyboards and every computer keyboard they decided to go ABCDEFG instead of standard typing but other than that I'm happy with the TV could it be better yeah it could could it be worse oh a lot all in all though I am happy I would have been a lot happier though if the TV was $999 instead of $1199 then I could justify the cutbacks and the cheap feet. The only real thing I can say is you have to get it tested out and play with all the apps and make sure they work correctly and do it before the 15 days is up but if you've never had an Android TV definitely get a protection plan I hope this helps some people

Beautiful picture. Much better than my qled. Contrast is excellent. The thing I deduct a star for are the remote control and somewhat glitchy software. A tv that’s in the price range of the x950h should come with a better remote. The Samsung remotes are simply much better than the one Sony provides. In this case less would be more. Less buttons otherwise Sony needs to backlight the remote so you don’t need to turn on a light every time to see what the buttons do. Occasionally there are some minor glitches with the software. It hasn’t been a big deal, just a minor inconvenience. I would definitely recommend this set over any qled that Samsung offers based on the quality of the picture.

Picture quality is good, sound quality is good, UI is manageable... I can't really complain about anything other than Sony needing to work on their remote control recognition. one of my roommates has a similar tv and their remote causes my tv to back out of apps or turn off when they use their remote. These don't come NIB anymore, so if you can score an open box model, it'll be a good find.

It's hard to believe a 55 inch TV can look small, but compared to my 65 inch Vizio, this does. Despite that, this is a fantastic TV. Yes, OLEDs are still superior, but I did not want to constantly worry about burn-in. This is our everyday TV, but I still wanted top of the range features, and this fits the bill. We don't play games on it, so the lack of gaming features compared to the X900 were not a factor. I have Android TV on my Invidia Shield (which is on a different TV), so I love having the same interface built in to this TV. However, if you watch Apple TV a lot, you might want to look else ware, as Apple and Google probably won't do a deal any time soon. The 55 inch fit our location, but if the 65 fits for you, and you can afford it, get it!

I’ve had this tv for a month now and coming from a Samsung ru8000, I didn’t realize how much I was missing concerning picture quality. This thing make the Samsung look like washed out trash. The colors on this Sony is so much more vibrant and bright. Upscaling is outstanding for non 4K content. Sometimes I have to check the hdr indicator to see if it’s in 4K because it makes almost everything look like 4K except my dish satellite which look better but still not great. HDR really pop on this! What a difference over 1100 nits make compared to the 300 nits of the Samsung. Not I know when people say blinding highlights, I know what they mean! It can get really bright. Even my wife who swears all TVs look the same had to admit that the color pops off the screen.

Last year, I purchased an 65X950G for my folks. This year, I moved in with my girlfriend and decided to replace her dying Panasonic Viera plasma with the 55X950H (she vetoed the 55A8G and 55A8H). While there are brighter, and less reflective TVs (last year’s Q90 and this year’s Q90T, those factors didnt matter in the spaces the TVs went, nor is brightness a major factor in what I cared about: color accuracy and processing power. The H improves upon the G’s already great local dimming control to make black levels ALMOST OLED level, with much less light bleed and blooming haze than last year. Sony’s color and upscaling remains undefeated and the bi-amped four-speaker array on the tv competes directly with my girlfriend’s hand-me-down Bose 5.1 Lifestyle (bass could use some work though).

I’ve had the TV for about 10 days. Out of the box I was quite underwhelmed with the picture quality and user interface. But with some tweaking (and expense) it’s gone from eh to excellent. I found the Android TV interface to be a cluttered and confusing mess. So many apps and attempts to sell me premium content. A bigger concern was image quality it was poorer than my old Samsung TV on most cable channels we watch and local stations. Even much of Netflix was so-so as was Hulu. As an experiment I hooked up my three year old Apple TV and in a-b comparisons the quality was noticeably better on the ATV. But my ATV is not 4K capable so I knew I would not get 4K quality. So I wound up watching channels like Netflix and Amazon Prime using the TVs native interface and Hulu on the ATV. That worked but it was cumbersome having to switch inputs. So then I got a Roku Streaming Stick+ for the TV. It was immediate obvious that it produced the excellent image quality I was hoping for. I also much prefer the Roku’s relatively uncluttered interface. Plus it allowed me to have one source for all the things we watch, including 4K, with no need for the ATV. Another advantage of the Roku is it simple and functional remote. In contrast the Sony remote is to cluttered and cumbersome for me to use. Another thing I did was set Netflix to stream 4k when possible rather than using the default Auto quality setting. That made another noticeable picture quality improvement. Now the TV is playing great using the Roku remote.

Picture quality is excellent as are the many added features and huge selection of available apps. My only issue is with the ultra thin glass screen. It had to be mounted on the wall for peace of mind because it is so easy to crack the glass. You can't touch the screen to move it, even in the wall mount. The very skinny legs provided with it are so far apart they make it seem very unstable,and they slipped on the surface of the cabinet I originally planned to keep it on. I didn't realize until the day after we set it up that the manual says to secure it to the cabinet top AND wall via included hardware and your own chain or ropes. I put putty under the legs to hold it until the Geek Squad could get here to put it on the wall. It's too expensive to have to worry about breaking ti by touching or it being too unwieldy with the legs so far apart. A base that it can sit in that is centered under the unit would be so much more stable. A frame around the screen to give some safe space to hold it and turn it would also be very helpful. I know this applies to most of the newer LED and OLED TVs. Not sure why there couldn't be more stability and framing ... I would recommend this TV WITH disclosure of these issues.
