  • General
    • Brand: Sony
    • Model Number: DSCRX10M4/B
    • Product Name: Cyber-shot RX10 IV 20.1-Megapixel Digital Camera
    • Color: Black
    • Camera Model Family: Sony RX
    • Digital Camera Type: Point and Shoot Cameras
  • Imaging
    • Image Sensor Type: CMOS (CCD and CMOS are the two main technologies used in image sensors. CCD, the older of the two types, turns analog light signals into digital pixels. This conversion happens without distortion, resulting in high-quality images. Newer CMOS sensors use transistors at each pixel to move electrical charges. CMOS sensors are typically less expensive, but also require more light to create distortion-free images.)
    • Image Sensor Size: 1โ€ (13.2 x 8.8 mm)
    • Total Pixels: 21 megapixels (Generally, the more pixels, the higher the image resolution and the finer the detail that can be seen.)
    • Image Resolution (Display): 5472 x 3648 (Refers to the number of pixels, both horizontally and vertically, used to either capture an image or display it. The higher the resolution the finer the image details.)
    • Zoom Capability: true (This function allows for magnification of the subject.)
    • Digital Zoom: 100x (A digital zoom is accomplished electronically, with no adjustment of the camera's optics, and no optical resolution gained in the process. The existing data is not enhanced or added to, merely displayed at a lower resolution, thereby giving an illusion of an enlarged image.)
    • In-Camera Image Stabilization: true (This feature helps reduce image blurring from camera motion. In-camera stabilization means the image sensor itself moves to counteract detected motion.)
    • Low Light/High Sensitivity: true (High sensitivity digital imaging devices are designed to work in low light conditions to produce a high dynamic range image.)
    • Image File Format(s): AVCHD, JPEG, RAW (Standardized software format(s) of storing digital images. The type of format chosen for capturing and compressing the image can determine quality, level of detail, and storage space required.)
  • Focus
    • Autofocus: true (Allows the camera to automatically focus through the lens, rather than by adjusting the lens manually.)
    • Eye Autofocus (Eye AF): true (Automatically seeks out and focuses on the subject's eye and holds it as the camera and subject move and as the photographer shoots at high frame rates.)
  • Exposure Control
    • Shutter Speeds: 30 - 1/2000 sec, Bulb, iAuto mode: 4 - 1/2000 sec; Electronic shutter: 30 - 1/32000 sec, iAuto mode: 4 - 1/32000 sec (The length of time the shutter remains open when the shutter release is activated, expressed in fractions of seconds. The longer the shutter is open, the more light that is able to be captured by the camera sensor.)
    • Brightness Control: true (Allows the camera to adjust the brightness of a captured image for optimal exposure.)
    • Burst Mode: true (Also referred to as continuous shooting. This feature captures multiple shots in rapid succession.)
    • Burst Rate: 24 frames per second
    • Self Timer: true
    • Shooting Modes: AUTO; Program Auto; Aperture Priority; Shutter Speed Priority; Manual Exposure; Movie Mode; HFR Mode; Panorama; Scene Selection (Exposure modes employed by the photographer to control the optimal aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and other settings for capturing specific subjects/scenes. Examples include Aperture-Priority, Macro, and Manual modes.)
    • Panorama Mode: true
    • Scene Modes: Portrait; Sports Action; Macro; Landscape; Sunset; Night Scene; Handheld Twilight; Night Portrait; Anti Motion Blur (Exposure modes with predetermined optimal settings for capturing specific scenes. Examples include Landcape, Portrait, and Sports modes.)
    • White Balance Modes: Auto / Daylight / Shade / Cloudy / Incandescent / Fluor.: Warm White / Fluor.: Cool White / Fluor.: Day White / Fluor.: Daylight / Flash / C.Temp. / Filter / Custom (Settings that calibrates how the color white is rendered in an image/video, reducing the appearance of unnatural contrasts caused by various light sources.)
    • Effective Pixels: 20.1 megapixels (The actual number of pixels which make up the viewable image.)
  • Lens
    • In-Lens Image Stabilization: false (This feature helps reduce image blurring from camera motion. Lens stabilization means an element within the lens moves automatically to counteract detected motion.)
  • Flash
    • Flash Modes: Fill-in, Off, Rear curtain sync, Slow sync (The flash feature emits light to increase the brightness of a subject in dimly lit environments. Common modes include Auto and Red-Eye Reduction.)
    • Integrated Flash: true

    • Display Type: TFT-LCD
    • Screen Size: 3.0 inches (Size of the screen, measured diagonally from corner to corner.)
    • Screen Resolution: 1,440,000 dots (Screens come in a range of resolutions (measured in pixels, horizontal x vertical). The higher the resolution, the greater the picture quality.)
    • Viewfinder Type: Electronic (A viewfinder is the part of a camera (or attachment) that allows you to see and focus a scene in frame. Optical viewfinders let you view the scene directly through the lens. Electronic viewfinders display the image on a screen in its approximate final form.)
    • Touch Screen: true (Touch-screen devices make navigating more intuitive. Using a touch-screen display, you can do things such as tap to select, hold and drag to move items, swipe to scroll, and pinch to zoom.)
    • Varying Angle Screen: true (The camera's screen can be flipped out and adjusted to rotate, tilt, and/or swivel.)

Q: What is the fastest shutter speed available on this camera?

A: The fastest shutter speed available on this camera is 1/32000 sec.

Q: Does this camera have a slow-motion feature for recording videos?

A: Yes, this camera has a super slow-motion movie HFR (High Frame Rate) and can capture super slow-motion movie clips at up to 960fps at 1080p.

Q: How does the camera handle low light conditions for photography?

A: This camera has Optical SteadyShotโ„ข technology which compensates for camera shake when shooting handheld in ultra-telephoto range or dim light.

Q: What is the maximum resolution that this Sony digital camera can capture?

A: This Sony Cyber-shot digital camera can capture high-resolution images up to 5,472 x 3,648 pixels.

Q: What type of viewfinder does this camera have?

A: This camera has an electronic viewfinder.

Q: How many images can I take on a single battery charge?

A: This camera allows you to take 400 images on a single battery charge.

Q: Can zoom be adjusted manually or do you have to let a motor in the camera adjust the focal length?

A: It has a W/T lever near the shutter button for motorzed zoom, or you can use the ring on the lens. (Use both so the motor does most of the work and then you fine tune with the ring). In settings you can switch the inner and outer lens rings to choose which is zoom and which is focus

Q: Is there any shutter lag? I understand that the auto focus is quite fast, but I shoot a lot of action and am a "decisive moment" sort of photographer. I'm currently shooting with a D500, but am attracted to the zoom range and features of this camera.

A: The zoom range is fantastic for telephoto. Just be aware the widest angle is a 24mm equivalent. There is no shutter lag. You may also shoot 24fps bursts to make sure you capture the right moment. The AF is so fast, it keeps the subject in focus throughout. I chose this camera over a DSLR so I don't have to worry about carrying lenses and changing lenses. I have been very happy with this camera for travel, nature and wildlife pics. I captured everything I wanted to on my overseas trip, from a wedding to hiking to family photos. It was easy to get great photos of birds and bats from a distance. Kids are the hardest to capture because they move fast. This camera always kept up with them.
