  • Key Specs
    • Image Sensor Size: 1” (13.2 x 8.8 mm)
    • Effective Pixels: 20.1 megapixels (The actual number of pixels which make up the viewable image.)
  • General
    • Brand: Sony
    • Model Number: DSCRX100M6/B
    • Product Name: Cyber-shot RX100 VI 21.0-Megapixel Digital Camera
    • Color: Black
    • Camera Model Family: Sony RX
    • Digital Camera Type: Point and Shoot Cameras
  • Imaging
    • Image Sensor Type: CMOS (CCD and CMOS are the two main technologies used in image sensors. CCD, the older of the two types, turns analog light signals into digital pixels. This conversion happens without distortion, resulting in high-quality images. Newer CMOS sensors use transistors at each pixel to move electrical charges. CMOS sensors are typically less expensive, but also require more light to create distortion-free images.)
    • Image Sensor Size: 1” (13.2 x 8.8 mm)
    • Total Pixels: 21 megapixels (Generally, the more pixels, the higher the image resolution and the finer the detail that can be seen.)
    • Image Resolution (Display): 5472 x 3648 (Refers to the number of pixels, both horizontally and vertically, used to either capture an image or display it. The higher the resolution the finer the image details.)
    • Zoom Capability: true (This function allows for magnification of the subject.)
    • Digital Zoom: 32x (A digital zoom is accomplished electronically, with no adjustment of the camera's optics, and no optical resolution gained in the process. The existing data is not enhanced or added to, merely displayed at a lower resolution, thereby giving an illusion of an enlarged image.)
    • Optical Zoom: 8x (The optical zoom uses a combination of lenses that magnify the image prior to it being registered at high resolution by the imaging sensor.)
    • In-Camera Image Stabilization: true (This feature helps reduce image blurring from camera motion. In-camera stabilization means the image sensor itself moves to counteract detected motion.)
    • Low Light/High Sensitivity: true (High sensitivity digital imaging devices are designed to work in low light conditions to produce a high dynamic range image.)
    • Image File Format(s): DCF 2.0, JPEG, RAW (Standardized software format(s) of storing digital images. The type of format chosen for capturing and compressing the image can determine quality, level of detail, and storage space required.)
  • Focus
    • Autofocus: true (Allows the camera to automatically focus through the lens, rather than by adjusting the lens manually.)
    • Eye Autofocus (Eye AF): true (Automatically seeks out and focuses on the subject's eye and holds it as the camera and subject move and as the photographer shoots at high frame rates.)
  • Exposure Control
    • Shutter Speeds: 30 - 1/2000 sec, Bulb, iAuto mode: 4 - 1/2000 sec; Electronic shutter: 30 - 1/32000 sec, iAuto mode: 4 - 1/32000 sec (The length of time the shutter remains open when the shutter release is activated, expressed in fractions of seconds. The longer the shutter is open, the more light that is able to be captured by the camera sensor.)
    • Brightness Control: true (Allows the camera to adjust the brightness of a captured image for optimal exposure.)
    • Burst Mode: true (Also referred to as continuous shooting. This feature captures multiple shots in rapid succession.)
    • Burst Rate: 24 frames per second
    • Self Timer: true
    • Self-Timer Delay: 10 seconds
    • Shooting Modes: AUTO (Intelligent Auto/Superior Auto), Program Auto, Aperture Priority, Shutter Speed Priority, Manual Exposure, MR (Memory Recall), Movie Mode, HFR Mode, Panorama, Scene Selection (Exposure modes employed by the photographer to control the optimal aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and other settings for capturing specific subjects/scenes. Examples include Aperture-Priority, Macro, and Manual modes.)
    • Panorama Mode: true
    • Scene Modes: Portrait, Sports Action, Macro, Landscape, Sunset, Night Scene, Handheld Twilight, Night Portrait, Anti Motion Blur, Pet Mode, Gourmet, Fireworks, High Sensitivity (Exposure modes with predetermined optimal settings for capturing specific scenes. Examples include Landcape, Portrait, and Sports modes.)
    • White Balance Modes: Auto, Daylight, Shade, Cloudy, Incandescent, Fluor.: Warm White, Fluor.: Cool White, Fluor.: Day White, Fluor.: Daylight, Flash, Underwater Auto, C. Temp./Filter, Custom (Settings that calibrates how the color white is rendered in an image/video, reducing the appearance of unnatural contrasts caused by various light sources.)
    • Effective Pixels: 20.1 megapixels (The actual number of pixels which make up the viewable image.)
  • Lens
    • In-Lens Image Stabilization: true (This feature helps reduce image blurring from camera motion. Lens stabilization means an element within the lens moves automatically to counteract detected motion.)
  • Flash
    • Flash Modes: Automatic, Off, Rear curtain sync, Slow sync (The flash feature emits light to increase the brightness of a subject in dimly lit environments. Common modes include Auto and Red-Eye Reduction.)
    • Integrated Flash: true
  • Display
    • Display Type: TFT-LCD
    • Screen Size: 2.95 inches (Size of the screen, measured diagonally from corner to corner.)
    • Screen Resolution: 921,600 dots (Screens come in a range of resolutions (measured in pixels, horizontal x vertical). The higher the resolution, the greater the picture quality.)
    • Viewfinder Type: Electronic (A viewfinder is the part of a camera (or attachment) that allows you to see and focus a scene in frame. Optical viewfinders let you view the scene directly through the lens. Electronic viewfinders display the image on a screen in its approximate final form.)

Q: Does this camera have an old fashioned view finder? I don't like using LED screens.

A: Hi Statia, the camera does have pop up built in viewfinder (0.39-type electronic 2.36M-dot OLED Tru-Finder).

Q: Does anyone know if Best Buy considers this a "mirrorless" camera in terms of returns. In other words, does a return of this camera incur the 15% restocking fee for DSLRs and mirrorless cameras. It would be great if a Best Buy employee could reply.

A: I recently returned a Sony RX100 V and was not charged a restocking fee. I was given a full refund. I'm a Best Buy Elite Plus member (not sure if that changes anything regarding restocking fees though).

Q: Does this camera come with the handheld stick or is that purchased separately?

A: Hi Erin, the handheld camera holder is available for purchased separately. Some retailers might have a bundle that includes the item.

Q: Does it shoot raw photographs

A: Yes. Also shoots 4K video and is super light. Expensive but very complete and easy to carry (I carry mine in my photographer's vest). Will work easily on almost any selfie stick so you can get creative. Can zoom in past wire fences at the zoo if you are closer to the wire. 1" sensor can take great photos. Get a couple of batteries - short life in cold weather.

Q: Make in ?

A: Mostly in China.

Q: How do I learn to use the RX100VI?? I purchased a 600 page manual with no table of contents or index??? EXTREMELY frustrating!! And... you need a magnifying glass to read it.

A: Hi Frank, Sony's commitment to customer satisfaction is our top priority. Please follow the link below to learn more about each features on the RX100M6. https://helpguide.sony.net/dsc/1750/v1/en/index.html Thank you so much for your question. And thank you for choosing Sony.

Q: Can the RX100vi process RAW files in camera?

A: No, you must use a separate soft ware like Adobe's free program (Adobe DNG Converter) .
